Product description

The blue glass bottle with a volume of 50 ml and an attached pump makes ready-to-use packaging for serums, facial and body oils, or light emulsions that are applied in small amounts. The pump, with a glossy black and gold body and a clear overcap, releases the same dose with every press, so the customer does not have to guess the amount or tilt the bottle. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

The medicine bottle shape with a narrow neck and the 50 ml volume correspond to a common size for a facial product that lasts several weeks. The pump makes this packaging a better fit for products that are applied in small amounts and where clean dispensing without fingers touching the contents matters.

  • Facial serums – both water-based and oil-based, where a small dose is enough for the whole face and the contents should not be needlessly exposed to air.
  • Facial and beard oils – the pump releases a measured amount that can be rubbed straight onto the skin.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – liquid creams and milks that can be dispensed with a pump.
  • Oil elixirs for hair and hair ends – a few drops on the palm are enough.
  • Samples and gift packs for small brands that want a matching look with other packaging in black and gold.

Dispensing and using the pump

One press releases approximately 0.3 ml, which for a serum or oil corresponds to the amount for one facial treatment. This value applies to liquid contents. Thicker creams and products with a high proportion of wax or thickener are harder to dispense through a pump, and the dose may be smaller or irregular. For thicker formulations, we therefore recommend testing the dispensing with the finished formulation before you commit to a larger batch.

After filling the bottle and screwing on the pump, press the pump several times without product until the dip tube and head fill with the contents. The first presses are often incomplete and do not give a full dose.

Screw the pump onto a dry neck with no traces of contents, so that the thread seals properly and the contents do not leak when the bottle is carried. The dip tube is longer than the inside of the bottle; after fitting, it rests against the bottom and bends slightly. When assembling for the first time, check that it reaches the bottom, so that the pump draws up even the last millilitres.

Nominal and brimful volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once screwed on. Therefore, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is fitted.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Residual water would dilute anhydrous contents or put a strain on the preservative system of an emulsion. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean ethanol and leave it to drip dry.

Fill emulsions and oils after they have cooled to room temperature. The pump has a body made of PP plastic and aluminium parts. For formulations with an unusual composition, we recommend checking how the packaging behaves with the specific formulation over time.

Contents with solid particles (scrub, grains, undissolved active ingredients) will clog the pump. Only fully liquid and homogeneous products belong in this set.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. For recycling, glass is sorted separately; the pump, as a combination of plastic and aluminium, belongs with plastics according to the rules in your municipality.

Frequently asked questions

Is the blue glass bottle with a pump suitable for cosmetics and food?
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; it is not declared for contact with food. The bottle and the pump each have a separate declaration of suitability for cosmetics, so you can fill them with serums, oils and emulsions. Do not choose this set for food use, for example for cooking oils or syrups.
How much product does the pump release per press, and can it handle thick creams?
One press releases approximately 0.3 ml of liquid contents. This value applies to serums, oils and light emulsions with low viscosity. Thick creams and balms cannot be dispensed reliably through this pump; a thick emulsion gets stuck in the dip tube and head, and the dose is irregular. For creams, a jar or a bottle with a pump for viscous contents is more suitable.
Why is the glass bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, because once screwed on, the pump takes up part of the space inside with its dip tube and body. The difference between the nominal and brimful volume is a reserve for exactly these parts. If it is overfilled, the contents overflow through the neck when the pump is fitted and soil the thread, which then does not seal.
How do I clean the bottle and pump before reusing them?
Wash the bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse it, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Rinse the pump by immersing the dip tube in ethanol and pumping several times, then pump without product and leave it to drip dry. Residues of the old contents in the pump would spoil the new filling.
Can the blue glass bottle be used with a closure other than this pump?
Yes, closures, droppers or sprayers with the same neck type, as given in the parameters, can be fitted to the bottle. You can find ready-made bottle plus closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the closure with the specific formulation before you fill a larger batch.
