Product description

This blue glass bottle with a 30 ml volume and a fitted pump is designed for products applied in small amounts: face serums, fluids, oils and light emulsions. One press of the pump head dispenses approximately 0.3 ml, which for a serum or face oil corresponds to a single dose for the face. Blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with formulations that are sensitive to light.

The glossy black and gold pump is covered by a clear overcap. It protects the pump head from dust and from accidental pressing in a bag or during transport. The bottle and pump set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face serums and fluids – liquid to slightly thick formulations with active ingredients, where a repeatable dose matters.
  • Face, hair and nail oils – the pump draws up common vegetable oils and their blends as well. One press is enough for the facial skin or for the hair ends.
  • Light emulsions and milks – thin O/W creams, eye emulsions and emulsions for the décolleté area, which the pump dispenses without any problem.
  • Test batches – the 30 ml volume is suitable for trying out a new formulation or for customer samples before producing a larger quantity.

How the pump works

The pump draws up the contents through a dip tube that reaches the bottom of the bottle. When you use it for the first time, you need to press the head several times until the tube fills and a full dose comes out. Whether the dispensing works depends on the consistency of the contents. Liquid and slightly thick products pass through without difficulty. Thick creams, butters and formulations with scrub particles will not be drawn up or will clog the head.

The pump dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before screwing the pump on for the first time, shorten the tube with a diagonal cut so that it reaches just above the bottom without bending. A straight cut easily sticks to the bottom, and the pump then draws up the contents less well.

With every press, air enters the bottle to replace the dispensed volume. The contents are therefore in contact with air just as in an ordinary bottle with a cap. Water-based and emulsion formulations need preservation regardless of the type of closure, and for oils prone to oxidation an antioxidant helps.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger, because it also includes the space up to the neck. The difference between the two values forms a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on and contaminate the thread.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water, pump it several times and let it drain. Do not fill the bottle while the tube is still damp.
  • Glass and heat – let the contents cool to room temperature before filling. Hot product may crack the glass and damage the pump seal.
  • Plastic and strong ingredients – the pump combines polypropylene and aluminium. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking in advance that the pump seals properly and that the surface of the head does not change.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. The same applies to the pump after thorough rinsing, provided that the dose has not changed after the previous contents and the pump has not stopped drawing up smoothly.
  • Other closures – the bottle has a neck with a diameter of 18 mm. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass waste. The pump is a combination of plastic and aluminium and is sorted by material separately from the bottle.

The pump is not designed for thick creams or for products with solid particles. If you plan to thicken your formulation, check the dispensing on a small sample before filling the entire batch.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, but it does not provide complete darkness. It is suitable for serums with light-sensitive active ingredients and for oils that oxidise faster in light. Even so, store the product away from direct sunlight, and for formulations with unstable active ingredients also consider adding an antioxidant.
How much product can be filled into the bottle with the pump?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml. The total brimful volume is larger, but this space remains free as a reserve for the dip tube, the pump body and the expansion of the contents. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on and contaminate the thread, which then no longer seals.
What products can be dispensed with a pump delivering 0.3 ml per dose?
The pump handles liquid and slightly thick products: serums, fluids, vegetable oils, light emulsions and milks. One press dispenses approximately 0.3 ml, which corresponds to a usual dose of serum or face oil for the face. The pump will not draw up thick creams, butters and formulations with scrub particles, or it will become clogged. A jar or a tube is more suitable for them.
Why does the pump not dispense anything on the first press?
After screwing on, the dip tube and the pump body are empty and must first fill with the contents. Press the head several times in a row until a full dose comes out. If the pump does not draw up even after several presses, check that the tube reaches the bottom, that it is not bent and that it has not been cut straight so that it sticks to the bottom of the bottle.
Can the bottle with the pump be washed and used again?
Yes, wash the glass bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry, and it can then be filled again. Rinse the pump with warm water, pump it several times and let it drain. Residues of oil or emulsion in the tube would spoil the next filling. If the pump draws up less well or does not seal after the previous contents, replace it with a new one.
Is the pump suitable for oils and alcohol-based tinctures?
For vegetable and cosmetic oils, yes, the pump draws them up and dispenses them without difficulty. For alcohol-based contents, we recommend checking the tightness in advance. Alcohol may dry out the seal and evaporates in the head, where it leaves residues. A bottle with a dropper is therefore usually chosen for tinctures and alcohol extracts, while the pump is more suitable for serums, emulsions and oils.
