Product description

The blue glass bottle with a capacity of 15 ml and a plastic pump is used for storing and dispensing liquid cosmetic products that benefit from light protection and the least possible contact with air. The blue glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents, and the pump dispenses a small amount of product with each press, so you do not need to open or tilt the bottle. The set is suitable for face serums, oil blends for the face, beard or cuticles, light fluids, and for travel or gift packs of finished products.

The pump head is black and gold with a glossy finish. The clear overcap protects the opening from dust and limits accidental pressing during transport. A small bottle with a pump is also a good choice for customer samples or for products of which only a few drops are used at a time.

How the set works

The pump is a mechanical pump with a suction tube. One press dispenses approximately 0.3 ml of product. The amount is controlled by the number of presses, and there is no spillage and no contact between your fingers and the contents of the bottle. When using it for the first time, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the tube fills and the product starts to dispense.

The bottle has a narrow neck, which is filled using a small funnel or a syringe. After filling, the pump is screwed onto the neck, and before first use it is worth checking that it fits tightly.

If the suction tube reaches deeper than the bottom of the bottle and bends, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The pump will then draw up the product down to the last drops, and the tube will not curl in the bottle.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume listed in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill only to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A product poured up to the neck would be pushed out through the thread when the pump is fitted.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oil serums and vegetable oil blends – the blue glass slows the effect of light on oils prone to oxidation, and the pump dispenses the oil without dripping down the neck.
  • Water-based and gel serums of lower viscosity – the pump draws up liquid serums with hyaluronic acid or plant extracts without any problems.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – liquid facial lotions and fluids that flow freely are dispensed cleanly and hygienically.
  • Travel and sample packs – the small volume suits a customer sample or a serum for hand luggage.

Thick creams, balms and products containing waxes are not suitable for this type of pump. The mechanism draws them up with difficulty or not at all, and the tube becomes blocked. Jars or bottles with a cap are more suitable for such products.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water, pump ethanol through it and leave it to dry. Residual moisture in the bottle or tube would introduce water into an anhydrous product, and with it the risk of microbial contamination.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Pour the product into the bottle only after it has cooled to room temperature, and do not place the bottle on hot surfaces. The plastic parts of the pump are made of polypropylene, which is commonly used with cosmetic oils and water-based products. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking how the pump behaves with your specific formulation, especially the tightness and flexibility of the mechanism after several weeks.

The pump has a declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products. No such declaration is available for the glass bottle, so suitability for contact with cosmetics applies to the pump as a separate component. The set is not intended for contact with food.

The bottle can be reused after thorough washing. For the pump, it depends on the previous contents. Oil residues are harder to remove from the tube and valve, so when changing the product we recommend using a new pump. The glass bottle is recycled as glass, and the pump consists of polypropylene and aluminium.

Do not turn the pump with force past the stop when screwing it on. The thread on the glass neck can be damaged by overtightening, and the pump will then stop sealing.

You will find other closures with the same neck type, listed in the parameters, and ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you are creating your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
The blue glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents and so slows the effect of light on sensitive ingredients, for example vegetable oils prone to oxidation or some vitamins. It does not block light completely, as some light passes through blue glass. For this reason, store the bottle out of direct sunlight, ideally in a closed cabinet, especially with oil serums.
Is the pump suitable for oil serums as well as water-based products?
Yes, the pump draws up both oil-based and water-based products as long as they flow freely. Vegetable oils, oil serums, toners, water-based serums and liquid fluids are dispensed without problems. The mechanism will not draw up thick creams, high-viscosity gels and balms, or the tube becomes blocked. For products at the limit of viscosity, we recommend a trial fill before larger production.
How much product can be poured into a 15 ml bottle?
The bottle is designed for 15 ml of product, which is its nominal volume. The physical brimful volume is larger, but this reserve is taken up by the tube and the body of the pump and by the product expanding when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, part of the contents is pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on.
Why does the pump not dispense anything on the first press?
After screwing it on, the pump needs to be primed with several presses until the air is pushed out of the tube and the product is drawn up. This is normal behaviour for a pump with a suction tube, not a defect. If the pump does not draw up the product even after repeated pressing, check that the tube reaches into the product and is not bent against the bottom of the bottle.
Can the set be reused once the contents have been used up?
Yes, the glass bottle can be reused after washing, disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and drying completely. The pump can be rinsed with water and ethanol can be pumped through it, but oil residues in the tube and valve are difficult to remove. When changing the product, especially from an oil-based to a water-based one, we recommend using a new pump so that no residues of the previous contents get into the new product.
Is the set suitable for contact with cosmetics and food?
The pump has a declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products, not the set as a whole. No such declaration is available for the glass bottle. The set is not intended for contact with food, so it is not suitable for homemade oils, syrups or herbal infusions intended for consumption.
