Product description

This set of a clear 50 ml PET medicine bottle and a black and gold fine mist sprayer is used for filling liquid cosmetic products that are applied as a spray. It is suitable for face and body mists, toners, hydrosols, hair sprays and eaux de parfum. The 50 ml volume suits travel packs, samples and smaller batches that are used up quickly.

The bottle is made of PET, so it is lightweight and will not break in a handbag or in the bathroom. The clear material shows the contents and the colour of the product, which you will appreciate with coloured hydrosols or when you want to see how much product is left. The sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish combines plastic and aluminium parts in a glossy black and gold finish, so the set also works well as a gift or as packaging for your own brand. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and body mists – thin water-based products with a hydrosol, glycerine or water-soluble active ingredients are sprayed as a fine mist and applied evenly without touching them with your hands.
  • Toners and hydrosols – the sprayer replaces pouring onto a cotton pad and reduces contact of the contents with air and fingers.
  • Hair sprays and conditioner sprays – light water-based or alcohol-based formulations without an oil phase are suitable.
  • Eaux de parfum and alcohol-based sprays – the small volume suits personal fragrance blends and fresheners.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, you can fill the bottle with a trial batch and check how the product behaves as a spray.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is slightly larger. This difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, part of the contents is pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is screwed on.

After filling and screwing on the sprayer, press it several times without product until the tube fills and the mist starts to come out. Proceed in the same way with every new filling.

Good to know

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive products, for example those with vitamin C, essential oils or plant extracts, in dark packaging or away from direct light. For ordinary toners, hydrosols and alcohol-based sprays used up within a few weeks, this is usually not a problem.

The sprayer needs thin contents. It works best with water-based and alcohol-based solutions. Thick serums, emulsions or oils will not spray through the nozzle, or they come out in drops and clog the nozzle. We recommend filtering contents with powder ingredients before filling. Check the suitability of a particular formulation with a trial filling.

Compatibility with the contents. PET withstands water, glycerine solutions and common alcohol-based solutions. With a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing whether the material turns cloudy and whether the sprayer seal changes its behaviour after a few days. Do not expose the set to aggressive chemicals or high temperatures; PET deforms during hot filling. Fill the contents once they have cooled to room temperature.

A food contact certificate covers only the bottle on its own. The set with the sprayer is intended as a whole for cosmetic products.

Preparation before first filling. Rinse the bottle and the sprayer with clean water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Flush the dip tube by pumping the sprayer several times in clean alcohol. Fill the dried packaging using clean tools.

The bottle can be reused, but a sprayer that has held oily or sticky contents often no longer sprays evenly. When you change the formulation, it is better to use a new sprayer.

Closures and combinations. The bottle has a neck with the thread given in the parameters, so it can also be combined with other closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Recycling. The PET bottle belongs in sorted plastic. The sprayer contains plastic and aluminium parts, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is a clear PET bottle with a sprayer suitable for a hydrosol?
Yes, hydrosols and toners are the typical contents for this set. A thin water-based liquid is sprayed as a fine mist and applied without touching it with your hands. Hydrosols are sensitive to light and microbial contamination, so store the bottle away from the sun, preserve the contents and use up the 50 ml filling within a reasonable time.
Can I spray oil through an 18/415 sprayer?
The sprayer is intended for thin water-based and alcohol-based solutions; oils will not spray evenly through it. Light oils may come out in drops, and thicker ones will clog the nozzle. A bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable for oil-based products. For very thin oil blends, we recommend checking the behaviour with a trial filling.
Does the clear PET medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Store products with vitamin C, retinol, essential oils or coloured extracts in dark packaging or away from light. For alcohol-based sprays and toners without sensitive ingredients, clear packaging is fine and also shows how much of the contents is left.
Can I pour an alcohol-based spray or eau de parfum into the bottle?
Yes, PET normally withstands water and alcohol solutions and eaux de parfum. For formulations with a high proportion of alcohol and fragrance blends, we recommend checking after a few days whether the material has turned cloudy and whether the sprayer is still sealing. Never fill the contents hot, as PET deforms with heat.
How many ml fit into a 50 ml bottle with a sprayer?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The space above this level is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents during warmer storage. If it is overfilled, part of the liquid is pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is screwed on, and the outside of the packaging gets dirty.
