Product description

This plastic medicine bottle with a black screw cap is a ready-made set of packaging and closure for liquid cosmetic preparations with a volume of 50 ml. The clear PET shows the colour and the level of the contents, so it suits toners, hydrosols, facial oils, lighter serums, liquid soap or samples for customers. The bottle is light and does not shatter when dropped, so it withstands travel and everyday handling in the workshop.

The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the cap does not, so the set is intended for cosmetic use.

How the set works

The cap with an 18/410 neck finish has a foamed polyethylene liner inside, which sits against the neck and seals the contents against leakage. The closure is tightened by hand, without tools. The narrow neck releases the contents slowly, so you can dispense them even without a separate dispensing element. Thicker emulsions and creams are awkward to pour from a medicine bottle; a jar or a bottle with a wider neck suits them better.

You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you choose a different closure for this bottle, check the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

What it is suitable for

  • Water-based preparations – toners, hydrosols, facial and cleansing waters that are poured onto a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Oil-based preparations – body and facial oils, oil serums, massage oils in a smaller pack.
  • Liquid soap and cleansing gels – as a travel or trial size.
  • Samples and test batches – the clear wall shows cloudiness, sediment or a change of colour during stability tests.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger and reaches up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled to the brim, the contents overflow when the cap is screwed on or remain in the cap and contaminate the liner.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging would mix with the preparation.

Good to know

The clear material does not protect the contents from light. Preparations containing light-sensitive ingredients, for example vitamin C, retinoids or unstable vegetable oils, spoil faster in clear packaging. Keep such contents in the dark or choose amber or blue packaging.

PET withstands water, diluted alcohol, vegetable oils and common surfactant systems. Undiluted essential oils, acetone and other aggressive solvents can make the plastic cloudy, soften it or damage it. If the formulation contains a higher proportion of such ingredients, run a material compatibility test in a single bottle over several weeks before filling the whole batch.

Fill the bottle only with contents that have cooled down. PET is not designed for hot filling; heat deforms it and it loses its shape.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Before each new filling, check the liner in the cap; if it is damaged or soaked with oil, it stops sealing. Place the empty bottle in plastic recycling, and unscrew the polypropylene cap and dispose of it together with the plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml plastic medicine bottle suitable for facial oils?
Yes, the 50 ml plastic medicine bottle is suitable for facial and body oils. Vegetable oils do not damage PET, and the narrow neck allows you to dispense the oil drop by drop into the palm. For oils prone to oxidation, for example linseed or rosehip oil, bear in mind that clear plastic does not protect against light, and keep the bottle in the dark.
Does a clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. For preparations with light-sensitive active ingredients, amber or blue packaging is more suitable. A clear bottle makes sense where you want to see the contents, or for preparations that are used up quickly and stored away from direct light.
Is the set with the bottle and black cap approved for food contact?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the black cap is declared suitable for cosmetics only. The bottle and cap pair is therefore intended for cosmetic preparations, and we do not recommend it for homemade syrups or kitchen oils.
How much can actually fit in the 50 ml medicine bottle?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, although it holds more when filled to the brim. The space above the level serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill it up to the neck, the contents overflow when the cap is screwed on and contaminate the sealing liner.
Can I pour alcohol or a tincture into a PET bottle?
PET withstands diluted alcohol in common cosmetic concentrations, for example in toners or facial waters. For high-percentage alcohol, tinctures with undiluted essential oils or other solvents, check compatibility with a test in a single bottle over several weeks. Watch for cloudiness of the plastic, softening of the wall and the tightness of the cap.
