Product description
A clear PET 50 ml medicine bottle with a black lotion pump and a smoky overcap is ready-made packaging for face creams, serums, body lotions and lighter gels. The contents are dispensed in small doses without reaching into the bottle with your fingers. Through the clear wall you can see the colour of the filling and how much of it is left. PET is light and does not break when dropped, so the set holds up well in the bathroom and in a travel bag. The pump has the same neck finish as the bottle, so there is nothing else to match.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.
What it is suitable for
- Face creams and serums – the pump dispenses a small, repeatable amount that is enough for the face or eye area, and the contents do not touch your fingers as they do with an open jar.
- Body and hand lotions – the 50 ml volume suits a sample, a travel pack or a small trial batch before you make a larger quantity.
- Light gels and fluids – thinner textures pass through the tube and nozzle without resistance, which also suits gel serums and aloe gels.
- Samples and presenting formulations – the clear bottle shows the colour and homogeneity of the product, which helps when testing emulsions and when showing them to customers.
How the pump works
One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. With concentrated serums this dose is enough, while with body lotion you press several times. Before first use, press the pump a few times without product. The first presses fill the dip tube and the chamber, and only then does the product start to come out. The smoky overcap protects the head from dust and from accidental pressing during transport. It is translucent, so you can see whether any dried cream residue has been left in the nozzle.
The dip tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so the pump also draws up the last layer of the contents.
The pump draws up product up to the thickness of an ordinary face cream. Thick butters, balms and formulations with a high proportion of waxes will not pass through it and may block the mechanism. With a thicker emulsion, first fill one bottle and check the dispensing, and only then fill the whole batch.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the rim of the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which push part of the contents upwards once screwed on, and for the expansion of the filling with changes in temperature. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the product will overflow through the thread when you fit the pump.
Emulsions are filled only after they have cooled to room temperature. A hot filling can deform the PET wall of the bottle and weaken the thread. The narrow neck requires a funnel. Liquid products are also easy to fill with a filling syringe, and thicker creams with a dosing syringe or a piping bag.
Good to know
- Light – clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Formulations with sensitive ingredients, for example vitamin C, retinol or oils that turn yellow quickly, are better kept in dark packaging; otherwise, store the set away from direct light.
- Essential oils and alcohol – PET tolerates water-based and ordinary oil emulsions. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, leave one filled sample to stand for several weeks and watch the wall of the bottle and the seal.
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Flush the dip tube and the chamber by pumping alcohol through them and then air.
- Reuse – once empty, both parts can be washed and refilled. You will find the procedure for cleaning the pump in the questions below.
- Other closures – other closures with the same thread type also fit the neck of the bottle, and we offer ready-made combinations. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP. Before disposal, separate the parts and sort them as plastic.
The pump is not airless. With every press, air is drawn into the bottle to replace the dispensed volume. The preservative system and formulations sensitive to oxidation must take this into account.
