Product description

For smaller quantities of liquid cosmetics, a clear 50 ml PET pharmaceutical bottle with a black aluminium cap is enough, supplied as a ready-made set. The bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, so it suits samples, travel sizes and first test batches. Through the clear plastic you can see the contents and the liquid level, which is useful with oils, toners or coloured infusions. The cap with an 18/410 neck finish closes the neck without a dispensing element, so the contents are poured or dripped straight from the neck. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

Suitable uses

  • Face and body oils – the 50 ml size matches the usual size of a trial oil serum or massage oil.
  • Toners and hydrolates – water-based products that are applied to a cotton pad or into the palm of the hand.
  • Samples and travel sizes – the bottle weighs little and survives a fall, so in a bag or toiletry pouch it is safer than glass.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based products – with alcohol bases we recommend testing how the packaging behaves with your specific formulation, especially with a higher proportion of essential oils.
  • Test batches – the small volume allows you to divide one batch into several bottles and monitor stability.

The bottle and cap as a whole

The pharmaceutical bottle has a narrow neck and a straight body, and the contents are dispensed in drops or a thin stream. The aluminium cap has an expanded polyethylene foam liner (EPE) inside, which sits on the rim of the neck and prevents leaking when the bottle is turned upside down. Moderate force is enough when tightening; excessive tightening only compresses the liner unnecessarily and does not improve the seal. The black metal closure on the clear bottle gives the packaging a uniform look without any further decoration.

Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, as well as ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine a bottle and a closure yourself, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal volume and filling

The stated 50 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the quantity the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference provides headroom for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, never to the brim, otherwise the contents are pushed into the thread when closing and the seal stops working.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Residual water in the packaging shortens the shelf life of water-based products and puts unnecessary strain on the preservative.

Good to know

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. For oils prone to oxidation and for light-sensitive active ingredients, dark packaging is more suitable, or storage in the dark. The plastic tolerates common cosmetic bases. With concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents, run a test in one bottle and check whether the wall turns cloudy or soft. The packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals at all.

Do not fill hot contents into a PET bottle. Pour emulsions, soap bases and infusions only after they have cooled, as heat deforms the plastic and can damage the thread.

Only the bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food. The cap carries no such declaration, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. After cleaning, you can reuse the bottle, but if the liner in the cap is markedly compressed or has absorbed a fragrance, it is better to replace it with a new closure. When sorting waste, separate the bottle and the cap: PET belongs with plastics and the aluminium cap with metals.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear PET pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. The bottle is therefore suitable for products that light does not degrade, or for contents intended for quick use. Oils prone to oxidation and light-sensitive active ingredients are better filled into dark packaging, or the bottle should be kept in a cupboard away from daylight.
How much actually fits into a 50 ml pharmaceutical bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal 50 ml, even though it holds more up to the neck. The remaining space is headroom for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill to the brim, the contents get into the thread, the cap then does not seal and residues remain on the bottle.
Is the 18 mm aluminium cap on the PET bottle leak-proof?
Yes, the liner in the cap sits on the rim of the neck and, when tightened correctly, prevents leaking. We recommend checking the seal with your specific formulation by turning the filled bottle upside down for several hours, especially with thin oils and alcohol-based products. Tighten the cap with moderate force; pressing the liner hard does not help the seal.
Can I fill essential oils or alcohol tinctures into the PET pharmaceutical bottle?
PET tolerates common cosmetic bases with the usual proportion of essential oils, but with concentrated essential oils and solvents a test is necessary. Fill one bottle and for several days check whether the wall turns cloudy, softens or changes shape. The packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals.
Can this set also be used for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food; the aluminium cap carries no such declaration. If you need packaging for food, choose a closure for the bottle that has food suitability stated in its parameters.
How do I clean the PET bottle before reusing it?
Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it thoroughly and disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then leave it open to dry completely. It is enough to wipe and dry the aluminium cap, but if the liner has absorbed the previous fragrance or is compressed, use a new closure.
