Product description

The 50 ml PET pharmaceutical bottle with a silver aluminium cap is a set for smaller packs that are carried in a bag or sent to customers. The plastic is light and does not break when dropped, so it suits facial and body oils, toners, facial waters, make-up remover oils, more fluid samples and travel sizes of everyday cosmetics. The clear wall shows the colour and amount of the contents, so it is a good choice where the contents are meant to be visible at a glance. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oils and oil serums – the contents are poured straight from the neck, and the threaded aluminium cap seals the bottle tightly between uses.
  • Toners and facial waters – water-based formulations without a sprayer, for example in a travel set or as a sample of a larger pack.
  • Samples and testers – a volume of 50 ml is enough to try a product, and through the clear wall the customer can see what they received.
  • Make-up remover and massage oils – the narrow neck of the pharmaceutical bottle dispenses the contents in small amounts, so less is spilled.

Closure and dispensing

The aluminium cap with an 18/410 neck finish closes the bottle without a dispensing element, and the contents are poured out by tilting the bottle. Inside it has an EPE liner that sits on the neck and forms the seal. Before sending out the finished product, tighten the cap by hand and leave the bottle lying on its side for several hours to check the seal with your specific formulation. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the brim of the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the cap or another closure, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle is harder to close, and the contents may be pushed out onto the thread when the cap is tightened.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash both the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging dilutes the contents and, in oil-based formulations, creates an environment for the growth of microorganisms.

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Store oils prone to oxidation, essential oils and light-sensitive active ingredients in this packaging away from direct sunlight, or choose dark glass for them.

PET is filled cold. Allow emulsions and oil phases to cool to room temperature before filling, as hot contents may deform the wall of the bottle. The packaging is not intended for contact with aggressive chemicals. For concentrated essential oils, solvents and formulations with a high proportion of alcohol, check compatibility in the finished formulation, for example by a trial filling and observing the walls of the packaging over several weeks.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Before reuse, check that the EPE liner in the cap is not compressed or soaked with the previous contents.

The certificate for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, because the cap does not carry such a declaration. At the end of their life, the PET bottle and the aluminium cap belong in recycling as two different materials, so separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear plastic 50 ml pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It suits formulations that are not affected by light, or products that are stored in a box or in the dark. For oils prone to oxidation and for light-sensitive active ingredients, amber or blue glass is more suitable.
To what level should the plastic pharmaceutical bottle with an aluminium cap be filled?
It is filled up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim of the neck. The space above this level serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. If it is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed onto the thread when the cap is tightened and the bottle may leak.
Is the plastic pharmaceutical bottle set with an aluminium cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The declaration of suitability for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone, and the aluminium cap does not have it. The whole assembly is therefore intended for cosmetic products, for which both components have a declared suitability.
Can the 50 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle with an aluminium cap be reused?
Yes, after washing, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and drying completely, the bottle can be filled again. Before reuse, check that the liner in the cap is not compressed or soaked, and check the seal by laying the filled bottle on its side.
Is the 50 ml PET bottle suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based contents?
Compatibility must be checked in the finished formulation. The packaging is not intended for contact with aggressive chemicals, and concentrated essential oils, solvents or formulations with a high proportion of alcohol may affect the plastic. We recommend a trial filling and observing the walls, the cap and the fragrance of the contents for several weeks before packing the whole batch.
Which closure fits the 50 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle?
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters of the bottle fit. In this set, it is an aluminium cap with an 18/410 neck finish. You will find ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.
