Product description
Glass bottle, vial, white-gold sprayer, 50 ml is a ready-made combination of an amber glass vial with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a plastic sprayer in a white-gold glossy finish. Amber glass reduces light exposure to the contents. This is especially important for hydrolats, facial tonics and formulations with essential oils or plant extracts, which lose their scent and efficacy more quickly in light. The sprayer disperses the contents into a fine mist, so the liquid is applied evenly, economically and without finger contact with the contents.
The set is suitable for facial and hair mists, tonics, hydrolats, perfume waters, fabric and air fresheners or alcoholic hand sprays. Both components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available with the product. The glass bottle individually also holds a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not, so the complete set is intended for cosmetics.
How the set works
The sprayer screws onto the neck of the vial and is tightened so that the collar seats flush around the entire circumference of the neck. The dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle, so the contents can be dispensed almost completely. Each press delivers a small, consistent dose, which suits products applied in a thin layer multiple times a day. For precise measurement of an ingredient in a formulation, the sprayer is not suitable – a dropper serves that purpose.
The small volume makes the set a practical format for travel, a handbag or a desk. It is also suitable for samples and test batches, where you want to try out how a formulation behaves in a sprayer before filling it into larger packaging.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is intended during standard filling and which is stated on the label. Total brim-full volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the headspace for the dip tube and the sprayer body, which push part of the contents upward once screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will overflow when fitting the sprayer and contaminate the thread, which will then seal less effectively. Both figures are listed in the specifications.
What is good to know when using
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Flush the sprayer by fitting it onto a bottle of clean water or ethanol and pressing several times until a clear mist comes out.
- Suitable contents – the sprayer works reliably with aqueous and alcoholic liquids of low viscosity. Hydrolats, tonics, perfume waters and aqueous solutions of active ingredients disperse evenly. Thin oil blends may work, but the mist tends to be coarser and the nozzle needs more frequent cleaning.
- Preservation – aqueous products in the sprayer need a preservative just as in any other container. The mist does reduce finger contact with the contents, but it does not replace a preservation system.
- Glass and temperature – do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes. Allow the formulation to cool down before filling.
- Plastic and essential oils – the plastic parts of the sprayer are made of polypropylene, which tolerates standard cosmetic concentrations of essential oils. At high levels of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the seal and spring on a single unit before larger-scale production.
- Reuse – the glass bottle can be reused after washing and disinfection. Flush the sprayer thoroughly after the previous contents; after oils or coloured products it may not clean completely.
- Labelling – the cylindrical shape of the bottle allows a label to be applied around the circumference.
- Other closures – closures with the same neck type as listed in the specifications, and ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
- Recycling – the bottle is made of glass and is recycled as glass. The sprayer combines plastic and aluminium and is separated from the bottle before recycling.
With alcoholic perfume waters and sprays with a higher ethanol content, hold the bottle upright when spraying. The sprayer draws through the dip tube from the bottom; when tilted, the tube end rises above the remaining liquid and draws in air, causing the dose to fail.
Emulsions, thick oils, butters and products with undissolved particles or glitter are not suitable for this set. The sprayer will clog.
