Gloss Black Glass Bottle, Black Aluminium Cap, 50 ml

Glossy black glass blocks light, so this 50 ml medicine bottle protects contents that deteriorate in light: face and body oils, oil serums, blends with essential oils and alcohol-based toners. The set includes a black aluminium cap, so the bottle closes by screwing the cap on and you need nothing else for it. Inside the cap is a liner made of expanded polyethylene (EPE), which sits on the neck and seals the contents.

The packaging is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the relevant declarations are listed with the product. The glass bottle itself also has a certificate for direct food contact, but the cap does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Suitable uses

• Oil serums and face oils – unsaturated vegetable oils and oil extracts lose quality faster in light; opaque glass removes this effect.
• Blends with essential oils – the glass does not react with them, even at a higher proportion in the formulation.
• Alcohol-based toners and tinctures – the 50 ml volume suits products that are dispensed in small amounts and used over a longer period.
• Small batches and samples – when testing formulations or selling samples, one set is enough, with no need to look for a separate closure.

The narrow neck slows pouring, so the bottle suits liquid contents that are applied by drops or poured into the palm. Thick creams and balms are difficult to get out of this shape.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the top of the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the cap, for a dropper or pump if used, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the bottle is closed and soil the thread, which impairs the seal.

Closing and sealing

The cap is tightened by hand, without tools. The EPE liner sits on the rim of the neck and seals the contents during normal carrying. For products with a high proportion of alcohol or essential oils, we recommend checking how the liner behaves with your specific formulation: leave the filled bottle lying on its side for several days and check that the contents do not leak and the liner does not change shape.

Good to know

Black glass does not show the level of the contents, so when dispensing you cannot see how much is left in the bottle. This usually does not matter with smaller sample packs, but allow for it with longer use.

After washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Check the cap after each use: the EPE liner is compressed over time and with repeated tightening it may seal less well than a new one.

After use, the glass belongs in glass recycling and the aluminium cap in metal recycling.
