White Plastic Bottle, Black Aluminium Cap, 10 ml

This white plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a black aluminium cap is sold as a ready-made set, so you do not have to look for a closure or test whether it fits the neck. The bottle is made of PET. It is light and does not break when dropped, which matters for small packs that travel in a handbag, in a suitcase or by post. The white opaque wall hides the contents.

The 10 ml volume suits samples and travel packs: a trial amount of serum, facial or massage oil, toner or another liquid product that a customer wants to try before buying a larger pack. The cap is unscrewed and the contents are poured or taken straight from the narrow neck. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set consists of

• Bottle – a white PET pharmaceutical bottle with an 18 mm neck. Pharmaceutical bottle is the name of a shape commonly used for samples and small volumes of cosmetics.
• Cap – black, aluminium, with a thread for the 18 mm neck. Inside it has a liner made of foam polyethylene (EPE), which sits on the rim of the neck once the cap is tightened and prevents leakage. A black cap on a white bottle helps to tell samples apart in a series.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim is slightly larger. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the thread and the liner of the cap, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill it up to the neck, the cap pushes part of the contents into the thread, the bottle then becomes sticky and the seal does not sit cleanly.

What the set is suitable for

• Samples – trial packs of serums, facial oils, toner or body oil for customers who want to try the product.
• Travel packs – lightweight packaging for a few days of use that does not break in luggage.
• Carrier oil blends – small amounts of massage or facial oil blends that are used up quickly.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect the bottle and the cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the bottle dilutes anhydrous products and reduces the stability of oils.

PET tolerates common cosmetic emulsions, aqueous solutions and vegetable oils. Fill the bottle only with cooled contents, never hot ones, because plastic deforms at a higher temperature and the bottle does not return to its original shape. Undiluted essential oils and some solvents can, over time, damage, soften or cloud the plastic. For pure essential oils and concentrated fragrance compositions, we recommend glass packaging. For alcohol tinctures and oil blends with a higher proportion of essential oils, check how the bottle behaves in your specific formulation.

The bottle can be reused if it can be cleaned thoroughly and no odour of the previous contents remains in it. For the cap, it is worth checking the liner after longer use. If it is compressed or damaged, the cap no longer sits tightly and the contents leak when the bottle is turned upside down.
