Product description

Plastic pharmaceutical bottle, amber, with treatment pump, 10 ml

A set for precise oil dispensing: an amber PET pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 10 ml, a black treatment pump and a clear overcap that protects the pump outlet from dust and accidental pressing. Each press dispenses approximately 0.18 ml of oil. It is suitable for facial and nail oils, oil serums, beard oils and hair-end oils, as well as for samples or travel sizes of oil blends where the customer needs an exact dose without dripping.

The amber colour of the material limits the access of light to the contents, which helps slow down oxidation in unsaturated vegetable oils and oil serums with vitamins. PET is lightweight and, unlike glass, does not break, so the bottle with the pump can be carried in a handbag or posted as a sample.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial oils and oil serums – one dose corresponds to the usual amount for the face, the contents do not spill and do not come into unnecessary contact with your hands.
  • Nail and cuticle oils – a small dose is enough for both hands, and the amber plastic protects the essential oils in the blend from light.
  • Beard and hair oils – dispensing by pressing makes it possible to measure out the amount for hair lengths or a beard without overflow.
  • Samples and travel sizes – the 10 ml volume and the unbreakable material suit testers of oil products as well as travel packs.

How to use the set

The pump is screwed onto the neck of the bottle in the same way as an ordinary cap. Before first use, press it several times until the dip tube and the pump head fill with oil. After that, each press dispenses the same dose. The clear overcap is placed on the pump head and prevents pressing during transport.

The dip tube of the pump is longer than the bottle itself. Before fitting, shorten it with sharp scissors so that its end reaches just above the bottom and does not bend, otherwise the pump will not draw up the last millilitres of the contents.

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total volume up to the rim of the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the dip tube of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume, not to the rim, otherwise the oil will overflow through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

The pump is intended for liquid oils and oil serums. With thicker oils, for example castor oil or blends with a higher proportion of butters, we recommend checking beforehand that the pump draws them up evenly and that no air bubbles remain in it. With water-based or alcohol-based contents, test the behaviour of the pump and the tightness of the set with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Before first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube would get into the oil and could promote the growth of microorganisms. The set can be used repeatedly. After emptying, rinse the pump with warm water and washing-up liquid and leave it to dry with the dip tube pointing down.

Pour oils and oil blends into the bottle only after they have cooled to room temperature, and protect the finished product from heat and direct sunlight. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking beforehand that the material of the bottle and of the pump remains unchanged after several weeks.

Only the amber PET bottle on its own has a food-contact certificate. The pump and the clear overcap do not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products, not for edible oils or syrups.

All three components of the set are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. The bottle has a neck with an 18 mm thread. You will find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. With your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation. The bottle is made of PET and the clear overcap of polystyrene, so separate them before recycling and put them in the plastic waste.

Frequently asked questions

How much oil does the treatment pump dispense per press?
One full press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.18 ml of oil. From a full 10 ml bottle you therefore get roughly 55 doses; the actual number depends on the viscosity of the oil and on whether the dip tube reaches the bottom. On first use, the pump needs to be pressed several times with no oil dispensed until it fills.
Does the amber PET bottle protect oils from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the material limits the passage of light to the contents and slows down the oxidation of unsaturated oils. It does not block light completely, so store the finished product away from direct sunlight and heat as well. For oils and serums that are sensitive to light, amber packaging is more suitable than clear packaging.
To what level should the bottle with the treatment pump be filled?
Fill it up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the rim of the neck. The space above the surface is a reserve for the dip tube of the pump and for the expansion of the oil at higher temperatures. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, the oil will overflow when the pump is screwed on.
Can the treatment pump also be used for thicker oils?
The pump is intended for liquid oils and oil serums, and its behaviour needs to be checked with thicker contents. Castor oil or blends containing butters may be drawn up unevenly, or the pump may dispense a smaller dose. We recommend testing with a small amount before filling a whole batch.
Is the bottle and treatment pump set suitable for edible oils?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. Only the amber PET bottle on its own has a food-contact certificate; the treatment pump and the clear overcap do not have one. For facial, hair or nail oils, all three components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.
How do I clean the bottle with the treatment pump before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, pump clean water through the pump several times and disinfect all parts with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Before refilling, they must be completely dry, especially the dip tube of the pump, so that no water gets into the oil. When you change the type of oil, repeat the cleaning, as residues of the old contents would affect the fragrance and stability of the new one.
