BTMS-50, or Behentrimonium Methosulfate, is a mild emulsifier and conditioner that is ideal for use in hair or skin cosmetics. It is a vegetable emulsifying wax made from rapeseed or palm oil.

Be sure to add it to your shampoo and conditioner recipes if you need to achieve softness, smoothness and hydration. Plus, it helps detangle your hair and reduces static energy created when combing, so it's sure to become your favorite tool.

BTMS-50 is a very mild cationic emulsifier, making it suitable for use in both rinse-out and rinse-free products. BTMS-50 contains 50% of Behentrimonium Methosulfate, whereas BTMS contains only 25%. BTMS-50 also contains the humectant Butylene Glycol.

There is also a difference in that you will find Cetyl Alcohol in BTMS-50, whereas you will find Cetearyl Alcohol in BTMS.

An emulsifier is a substance that allows a homogeneous mixture to be formed from otherwise immiscible liquids, such as water and oil. Adding an emulsifier to a mixture of water and oil produces an emulsion. These are, for example, creams, body lotions, shaving emulsions, make-up oils and anything containing oil and water.

BTMS-50 creates an oil-in-water emulsion. It is added to the oil phase where it is allowed to melt at about 60°C.
