Clear Glass Bottle, Glossy Silver White Pump, 50 ml

The 50 ml glass bottle with pump is packaging for cosmetics applied in small amounts: facial serums, oil serums, fluids and lighter emulsions. The clear glass lets you see the colour and texture of the contents. The white and silver glossy pump closes the bottle and dispenses equal doses, so the contents do not come into contact with your fingers as they do when scooping from a jar.

The set is supplied as a ready-made pair: the bottle and pump fit together and there is nothing else to buy. Both components are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. In addition, the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, while the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

• Facial serums and fluids – a single pump dose corresponds to the amount normally applied to the face, and the contents are not exposed to air or hands each time you use it.
• Facial oils and oil serums – thin oils pass through the dip tube without problems.
• Light emulsions and lotions – runnier creams that can be dispensed with a pump. Thick creams and balms are not suitable.
• Smaller batches and gift packs – the volume is enough for several weeks of serum use. It is also suitable for a trial batch of a new recipe before larger-scale production.

Dispensing and using the pump

The pump draws the contents up through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per press. One or two presses are therefore enough to apply serum to the face, while a body product needs several presses. After the first filling, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube and mechanism fill and the full dose comes out.

How the pump behaves depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin serums and oils come out easily; with very runny products it is worth waiting a moment after pressing to see whether any residue drips from the nozzle. A thicker emulsion may come out more slowly or the pump may not draw it up at all. We therefore recommend testing the compatibility of the pump with your specific formulation on a small amount before filling the whole batch.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them is the allowance for the dip tube and the pump mechanism, which takes up part of the space in the neck once screwed on. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled to the brim, the contents would overflow through the neck when the pump is fitted.

Good to know

• Light – clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store products containing light-sensitive active ingredients, or oils prone to yellowing, in a dark cupboard, or choose amber or blue glass.
• Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry upside down. Rinse the pump with ethanol, press it several times without liquid so that the remaining liquid is expelled from the mechanism, and leave to dry.
• Reuse – the glass bottle can be washed and refilled. With the pump, it depends on what was in it. After an oil product or an emulsion, rinse it thoroughly with warm water and ethanol, otherwise residues in the dip tube may spoil the new filling.
• Plastic and formulation – the pump combines PP and aluminium. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing how the plastic parts behave and that they remain leak-tight in the finished product.
• Different closure – closures with the same neck finish as the bottle (see the parameters), as well as other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, test the leak-tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
• Recycling – the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The pump is made of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
