Product description
A black glossy 100 ml glass medicine bottle and a silver aluminium cap make a ready-to-fill set for oils, serums, tinctures and facial toners that need protection from light. The opaque black glass keeps light away from the contents, so it suits formulations with vegetable oils prone to oxidation, essential oils or light-sensitive active ingredients. The medicine bottle shape with a narrow neck allows you to pour out the contents in small amounts, even without a pump or dropper.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the cap does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.
What the set includes
- Glass medicine bottle, black glossy, 100 ml – opaque glass with a glossy surface, 18/410 neck finish. The glass does not react with common cosmetic raw materials, including ethanol and essential oils, and it can be washed and disinfected repeatedly.
- Aluminium cap, silver, 18 mm – screw cap with an EPE liner. The aluminium shell complements the black glass with a metallic look and, once tightened, closes the bottle for transport and storage.
What it is suitable for
The 100 ml volume matches the usual pack size of body and massage oils, facial oil serums, hair and beard oils or bath oils. Opaque glass is also the right choice for alcohol-based tinctures, facial toners and tonics with plant extracts, which would lose colour or effectiveness in light. The narrow neck helps with dispensing liquid contents. Thick creams and gels are difficult to get out of a medicine bottle; a jar or a wide-neck bottle is more suitable for them.
If your own formulation contains a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, test how the contents behave with the cap liner on a single piece before you fill a larger batch.
Nominal and brimful volume
The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When you tighten the cap, an overfilled bottle will overflow or the contents will press on the seal.
When filling oils and alcohol-based tinctures, leave an air gap in the neck. The contents expand in warm conditions, and the gap gives the cap seal room so that it does not leak when the temperature changes.
Closures and combinations
You will find closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, as well as ready-made combinations of this bottle with other closures, in the Handymade range.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely upside down. Disinfect the cap in the same way, but do not immerse it for a long time. The liner should stay dry until you put the cap on.
You cannot see the level or any sediment through black glass. For contents where appearance is assessed, for example samples for stability tests, it is worth filling a clear bottle in parallel as well. For your own product, the level is checked by weighing or by measured filling.
The glass withstands hot water during washing, but not sudden temperature changes. Let the hot oil phase cool before filling, at least to a temperature at which you can hold the bottle in your hand. Tighten the aluminium cap by hand. With excessive force the liner deforms and the closure stops sealing.
The set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the glass bottle itself has a food contact certificate; this aluminium cap does not.
Reuse is no problem with glass; thorough washing and disinfection are enough. For the cap, check that the liner has not changed shape or absorbed the previous contents. If it has, replace it. At the end of its life, the glass goes in glass recycling and the aluminium cap in metal recycling; separate them before disposal.
