Product description

The black glass bottle with pump, 30 ml, is designed for facial serums, oils and light emulsions that are applied in small amounts. The black glass protects the contents from light, so it suits formulations with light-sensitive and oxidation-prone ingredients, such as vegetable oils, vitamin C or retinol. The black and gold glossy pump with a clear overcap dispenses a small dose with each press. The contents do not need to be poured out or scooped with your fingers, which reduces the risk of contamination. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial serums – water-based and oil-based serums with active ingredients, where precise dispensing and protection from light matter.
  • Facial and body oils – vegetable oils and oil blends prone to yellowing; the pump dispenses them without dripping down the neck.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – liquid creams that the pump draws up and dispenses with ease.
  • Small volumes of specialised products – eye serum, cuticle oil, hair tip serum or products for the décolleté area.

How the set works

The pump screws directly onto the neck of the bottle, the dip tube reaches the bottom, and the first presses draw the product up into the head. One press corresponds to approximately 0.3 ml; the value is indicative. With a typical serum this is a dose for the face and neck, and it can be used to work out how many applications the fill will last. The clear overcap protects the pump head from dust and prevents accidental pressing during transport or in a cosmetic bag. The body of the pump is made of polypropylene, and the gold collar is made of aluminium.

The glossy black surface of the glass with the gold collar looks uniform across a whole range of products, if the same set is used for a serum, an oil and an emulsion.

The pump is designed for liquid to medium-thick formulations. Thick creams, balms or products with solid particles (scrub particles, undissolved powders) may clog the tube and the valve. We recommend testing how your particular formulation behaves in the pump on one piece before filling a larger number.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The total volume to the brim, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the lower part of the pump, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the product would overflow when the pump is screwed on.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump and leave it to dry; water inside would dilute the first doses.
  • The level is not visible – you cannot check through the black glass how much product is left. During production it helps to fill by weight or with a volumetric measure, and during use to count the doses.
  • Residue at the bottom – the dip tube does not draw up the very last millilitres. With oil serums containing expensive ingredients, it is worth allowing for this already when calculating the fill.
  • Glass and temperature – pour the product in once it has cooled; sudden temperature changes are not good for glass.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. The inside of the pump cannot be cleaned thoroughly, so when changing the formulation a new pump is more suitable.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your particular formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass recycling; the pump made of polypropylene and aluminium should be separated from the bottle before disposal.

The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The set with the pump as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black glass does not let light through to the contents. This matters for oil serums and for products with vitamin C, retinol or plant extracts, whose colour and effectiveness change faster in light. However, the glass does not block heat, so the bottle should still be protected from direct sunlight and stored in a dry and clean environment.
How much product does the pump dispense per press?
One full press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.3 ml of product. The value is indicative and depends on the thickness of the fill and on whether the pump is pressed fully. With a 30 ml fill, this corresponds to roughly a hundred doses. Before first use, press the pump several times to prime it until the dip tube draws the product up from the bottom.
Can the bottle with pump be filled to the brim?
No, the bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the brim is higher, and the difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube and the lower part of the pump, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it is overfilled, the product will run out through the neck when the pump is screwed on and contaminate the thread, which may impair the seal.
Is the bottle with pump suitable for facial oil and for cream?
It is suitable for facial oil and liquid emulsions, but not for thick creams. A pump with a dip tube draws up liquid to medium-thick formulations; thick creams or balms will not be pushed up into the head or will clog it. A jar is more suitable for a thick cream. If the viscosity is borderline, we recommend testing the pump with the finished formulation before you fill a whole batch.
Can I use the black glass bottle with pump for alcohol-based products or blends with essential oils?
The glass bottle withstands both alcohol and essential oils; for the pump it depends on the composition of the fill. The pump is made of polypropylene with an aluminium collar, and with a high proportion of alcohol or concentrated essential oils the behaviour of the seals or the valve may change over time. We recommend verifying compatibility with your particular formulation on a test piece over several weeks.
