Product description

The glossy black glass bottle with a capacity of 50 ml and a black and gold pump is ready-to-use packaging for serums, facial oils and light emulsions. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light, the pump dispenses the same dose with every press, and the contents do not come into contact with your fingers during use. The bottle and the pump fit together, so nothing else needs to be bought separately.

The bottle has a medicine bottle shape with straight walls and stands stably even on a small bathroom shelf. The clear overcap of the pump protects the nozzle from dust. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial serums – both water-based and oil-based serums are dispensed in small amounts, the pump measures out the dose without leaking, and the dark glass protects sensitive active ingredients from light.
  • Facial and body oils – vegetable oils prone to oxidation benefit from both the opaque glass and the closed system, which lets in less air during dispensing than an open neck does.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – liquid creams, day emulsions or fluids with a lower viscosity are dispensed conveniently and hygienically.
  • Hair oils and beard oils – the 50 ml volume matches the usual size of hair and beard care products, and one dose is enough for one application.
  • Samples and gift packs – the set in contrasting black and gold suits smaller batches and the presentation of your own brand without additional decoration.

How to fill and dispense

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful capacity is larger and you can find it in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the inner space once screwed in. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume and the neck stays free.

One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.3 ml of product. For a serum or an oil, this corresponds to a dose for one application to the face; for a body product, press the pump several times. When using it for the first time, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the tube and the chamber fill and the product starts to come out.

The pump works with liquid to medium-thick products. It will not draw up thick creams, butters or balms that do not flow at room temperature. For emulsions with a higher viscosity, it is worth testing the dispensing on a sample before filling the whole batch.

The final viscosity of an emulsion is also determined by the chosen thickener and its usage rate. If the product is meant for a pump, take this into account at the formulation stage and adjust the recipe so that it stays liquid even after it has cooled down completely.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water or alcohol and also let it dry, so that no water gets into the product. When reusing the pump, clean it by pumping warm water with a little washing-up liquid through it, then clean water and finally alcohol.

Glass does not tolerate thermal shock well. The product is filled only after it has cooled to room temperature. A hot filling may damage the bottle and, once the pump is screwed on, creates an overpressure that then pushes the product up the tube.

The pump is made of polypropylene and aluminium. Polypropylene tolerates common cosmetic oils and emulsions. For products with a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the seal on a single piece before filling the whole batch.

Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics only and is not suitable for homemade oils or syrups.

For recycling, the pump is unscrewed and sorted separately from the glass. After cleaning, the empty bottle can be reused, and so can the pump after thorough cleaning. Other closures in the Handymade range fit the same neck type; when making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 50 ml black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black glass is opaque and does not let light through to the contents. It is therefore suitable for serums and vegetable oils prone to oxidation. However, light is only one of the factors of stability, and the contents still need a suitable antioxidant and preservative system according to the type of product.
How much product does the pump on the 50 ml bottle dispense per press?
Approximately 0.3 ml, which corresponds to a usual dose of serum or facial oil for one application. For body products, the dose is simply repeated. The figure is approximate; the actual amount depends on the viscosity of the product and on whether the pump is pressed all the way down.
Which products can be dispensed from the 50 ml black glass bottle with a pump?
Liquid to medium-thick products, that is serums, oils, fluids and light emulsions. The pump will not draw up thick creams, butters and balms, for which a jar is more suitable. For emulsions at the limit of viscosity, we recommend testing the dispensing on one bottle before filling a larger quantity.
Is the 50 ml black glass bottle with a pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not have it. The assembled set is therefore intended for cosmetic products, and we do not recommend using it for homemade oils or syrups.
Why is the 50 ml glass bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
Because part of the inner space is taken up by the tube and the body of the pump. The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for. If it were filled up to the neck, the product would be pushed out once the pump is screwed on and the neck would get dirty.
