MENTHOL MASSAGE OIL - INGREDIENTS

Below you will find a list of the ingredients needed to make menthol massage oil. Of course, in the following sections of the article we also offer instructions on how to vary or omit some of the ingredients if you don't have them on hand or if you want to customize your menthol massage oil.

Don't forget to prepare a suitable container, a coloured glass bottle (light protection) with a pump for dispensing the oils (i.e. an oil dispenser) or a dropper is suitable. Purely plastic packaging could introduce some substances from the packaging material into the product or absorb compounds from the oils, so for purely oil-based products, reach for glass packaging instead.

MENTHOL MASSAGE OIL - THE IMPORTANCE OF RAW MATERIALS AND THEIR VARIATIONS

Do you want to customize your peppermint massage oil to suit you? Or are you curious about the meaning of the individual ingredients? These questions are also answered in the following lines.

HEMP OIL

A great, readily available carrier oil for making peppermint massage oil is hemp seed oil. This oil is well absorbed by the skin and provides it with valuable substances for regeneration and vitality.
It is an oil from the seeds of the hemp plant, it is a rich source of omega fatty acids, it provides hydration to the skin, it is also suitable for oily and acne-prone skin.

A refined type of hemp oil was chosen for the product, as cold-pressed hemp oil oxidizes quite quickly and is thus more difficult to work with, especially as far as beginners are concerned. Therefore, if you want your peppermint massage oil to stay fresh longer (i.e. the oxidation of the oil is slower), it's a good idea to combine
with antioxidant vitamin E (tocopherol) and choose a refined type of this oil as well. Of course, this oil can be substituted for any other vegetable oil, but heating it can causeloss of some of the valuable ingredients when heated, especially with more luxurious, nutrient-rich oils.

MENTOL

Menthol providesa cooling effect on the skin. These are white crystals soluble in oils or alcohols, and require gentle heating to dissolve perfectly. It helps to relieve the feeling of tired muscles or heavy legs and has refreshing properties. Menthol is not so easily replaced in the product due to its unique properties, but you can try eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil. If you have sensitive skin, you can reduce the dose of menthol as needed.

BLACK PEPPER ESSENTIAL OIL

An unconventional essential oil is black pepper oil. This oil is obtained by steam distillation of black pepper fruits and has a mild spicy aroma. In addition to its antibacterial properties, it improves blood circulation to the skin and is suitable for use in massage preparations for stiff muscles.

However, if you do not want perfumation in the product or if you have an allergy to black pepper, skip the addition of this ingredient to the product. If you wish to substitute black pepper essential oil with another, check the recommended dosage according to IFRA standards (listed in the documents on the product page).

LEMONGRASS ESSENTIAL OIL

Lemon grass essential oil will win you over with its fresh citrus scent. This essential oil also has good repellent properties, helping to relieve stress and muscle tension. Of course, it also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Again, you can leave the essential oil out of the product altogether, but by doing so, you will lose the benefits it provides to the skin and muscles.

When substituting
this oil for another, again, check the dosage for each type of product according to IFRA standards (found listed with the product on the vendor's website), do not exceed the recommended dosage.

TOKOFEROL

The most well-known oil-soluble antioxidant is tocopherol or otherwise known as vitamin E. This thick, dark brown, oily liquid is well incorporated into oil products. However, tocopherol should only be added to the product after it has cooled down, as it is heat sensitive. Tocopherol will keep your oils fresher in the product longer, delaying the unpleasant oxidation stage of oils that you can recognize by the discolored and odorless oils.
Tocopherol can be omitted, but you can also replace it with tocopheryl acetate, which has similar properties, as it will keep the product fresher for a shorter period of time.

NOTICE

As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the final result.

Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test.

If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
