Product description

White glass medicine bottle, 10 ml with an 18 mm plastic lotion pump is a ready-made set for small packs of creams, serums and gels. The opaque white glass limits the light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with formulations containing oils, vitamins or light-sensitive plant extracts. The black pump dispenses the contents in small doses, so you do not need to reach into the bottle with your fingers and the product is used up gradually without unnecessary contact with air. The 10 ml volume suits samples, eye creams, topical preparations and travel sizes.

The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. The set is not intended for contact with food.

What it is suitable for

  • Creams and emulsions – day and night creams, hand creams or eye creams in a travel or trial size. The pump always dispenses approximately the same amount, which makes application to small areas easier.
  • Gel serums – hydrating serums with a gel consistency, which would be difficult to dispense from a dropper.
  • Customer samples – a small pack for trying out a formulation before buying the full size. White glass looks uniform in a gift or trial pack and does not show the contents.
  • Test batches – when fine-tuning a new emulsion, it is enough to make a small amount and see how it behaves in the finished packaging with a pump.

How to work with the set

The bottle is filled through the neck, not through the pump. With a narrow neck, a needleless syringe or a small filling funnel has proven useful, and thicker creams can be pressed in with a spatula. Let the emulsion cool to room temperature before filling.

The pump is supplied with a dip tube that is longer than this bottle needs. Before the first assembly, shorten it so that it reaches just above the bottom and does not bend against the wall. After screwing the pump on, press it several times until the tube and mechanism fill and the contents start to come out. One press dispenses approximately 0.12 ml, an amount suitable for the eye area, lips or a smaller area of skin.

The lotion pump is designed for creams, lotions and gels. It cannot push very thick butters, balms with a higher wax content or mixtures that solidify at room temperature through the tube. Thin liquids such as toners or hydrosols come out of the pump uncontrollably; a fine mist sprayer or a dropper is more suitable for them.

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is taken up by the tube and the pump mechanism. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will be pushed out when the pump is screwed on.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump by pumping clean water through it and letting it drain.
  • Reuse – the glass withstands repeated washing, and the pump is cleaned by pumping warm water through it. If the mechanism becomes stuck with dried cream, it is easier to replace it.
  • Formulations with alcohol or essential oils – the pump is made of polypropylene, which withstands common cosmetic raw materials. With a higher proportion of alcohol or essential oils, we recommend checking the behaviour of the seal and the tube directly with your formulation.
  • Closures – you will find other closures with the same neck type, given in the parameters, and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – once used up, unscrew the pump; the glass goes in glass recycling and the PP pump in plastics recycling.

Do not leave the filled set in direct sunlight or near a heat source. Although the glass limits light, the contents expand with heat and may seep around the thread.

Frequently asked questions

Does a white glass 10 ml medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white glass is opaque and limits the light reaching the contents. It is therefore suitable for creams and serums with oils, vitamins or plant extracts, which lose their effect or change colour more quickly in light. However, the glass does not protect the contents from heat, so do not leave the filled packaging in the sun or next to a radiator.
How thick a cream can the 18 mm lotion pump dispense?
The pump handles common creams, lotions and gel serums that can be pushed through the tube. Thick butters, balms with waxes and mixtures that solidify at room temperature will not get through the mechanism or will block it. If you are not sure, fill a small amount and test the dispensing before filling the whole batch.
Why does nothing come out of the pump after screwing it on?
The pump must first be primed with several presses until the tube and mechanism fill with the contents. The first presses therefore come out empty. If nothing comes out even after that, check whether the tube has been shortened too much, is bent against the wall or is blocked by a thick cream.
How much cream fits into a 10 ml medicine bottle with a pump?
It is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml. The total brimful volume is slightly larger, but this reserve is taken up by the tube and the pump mechanism. If it is filled up to the neck, part of the cream is pushed out when the pump is screwed on and the area around the thread gets dirty.
Is the set with a lotion pump suitable for toners and hydrosols?
No, the lotion pump is not designed for thin water-based liquids. A toner or hydrosol comes out of it uncontrollably and the dose is difficult to measure. The same medicine bottle with a fine mist sprayer or a dropper is suitable for such contents.
Can the plastic lotion pump be washed and used again?
Yes, the pump can be cleaned by pumping warm water through it until it runs clean. For oily residues, a drop of washing-up liquid followed by rinsing helps. Let the pump dry completely before the next filling so that no water gets into the new formulation. If dried cream blocks the mechanism, it is better to replace the pump.
