Product description
Glass bottle with fine mist sprayer, white, 10 ml
Glass medicine bottle with a fine mist sprayer for toners, hydrosols, facial mists and perfume waters that are applied as a fine mist. Opaque white glass conceals the contents and limits the light that reaches them, so it also suits alcohol-based solutions and fragrances, where light speeds up changes in scent or colour. The 10 ml volume is intended for samples, travel packs, trial batches of fragrance compositions, or products that are used up quickly and are not worth filling into a larger bottle.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food, so it should not be used for syrups, cooking oils or other food products.
What it is suitable for
- Toners and hydrosols – thin water-based products applied as a mist directly onto the skin or hair.
- Perfume waters and alcohol-based solutions – fragrance samples, fresheners and disinfectant solutions with ethanol in a small pack.
- Samples and travel packs – when you need to send out a trial quantity or keep a product in your handbag.
- Facial and hair mists with a light consistency that do not clog the nozzle.
The sprayer distributes only thin liquids evenly. It may not spray thick serums, gels and more viscous oils correctly; a dropper or a pump is more suitable for these.
Sprayer and dispensing
The sprayer has a white body made of polypropylene with a clear tube and screws directly onto the neck of the medicine bottle. One press releases approximately 0.13 ml of the contents, which is enough for a single dose of toner or perfume water on the wrist. A full bottle corresponds to roughly 75 presses, but this depends on the thickness of the liquid and on how much of the contents remains below the end of the tube.
The sprayer tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it for the first time, shorten it so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube that is too long bends in a small medicine bottle and draws in air, while one that is too short leaves part of the contents unused.
After the first filling, prime the sprayer by pressing it several times until the contents are drawn into the tube. If the spray weakens after a longer break, rinsing the nozzle with warm water and pressing again will help.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference provides room for the tube and the body of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. You should therefore fill it to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is screwed on and make the thread sticky.
You can fill it with a syringe without a needle, a small funnel or a dropper. With alcohol-based contents, leave the space below the neck free, because ethanol expands slightly when warm.
Good to know
- Preparation before the first filling – wash the medicine bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Moisture in the bottle dilutes the contents and, in products without a preservative, shortens the time before something starts to grow in them.
- Glass and heat – do not fill hot contents into the medicine bottle, as a sudden change in temperature can crack the glass. Hydrosols, toners and perfume waters are filled at room temperature.
- Plastic and essential oils – polypropylene tolerates common water-based and alcohol-based cosmetic contents. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, check after a few weeks that the sprayer still seals and dispenses evenly.
- Reuse – the medicine bottle can be refilled after washing and disinfection. The sprayer is harder to clean, and when the contents are changed, especially perfume water, the original scent remains in the tube and nozzle.
- Other closures – closures with the same neck type fit the medicine bottle, and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the sealing and dispensing with your specific formulation.
The sprayer is not an airtight closure. Products sensitive to air or containing volatile components are used up faster in it. For longer storage, a solid cap is more suitable, and the sprayer should be fitted just before use.
Once used up, the packaging is separated: the glass medicine bottle goes into glass, and the sprayer, being PP plastic, goes into plastics.
