Product description

A small amber glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer for facial mists, toners, hydrosols and other thin liquids that are applied by spraying. Amber glass protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate with hydrosols, tinctures, perfume waters and formulations with more sensitive active ingredients. The 30 ml volume is enough for a travel pack, a customer sample or a trial batch of a new spray that will be used up before it has time to spoil.

The set is supplied as a bottle with a black plastic fine mist sprayer that screws onto the neck. The packaging is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The declaration of conformity is provided with the product.

Suitable uses

  • Hydrosols and facial toners – thin water-based solutions are sprayed evenly and applied without contact with your hands, which helps keep the contents clean.
  • Perfume and eau de toilette – an alcohol base is easy on the sprayer, and dark glass slows down changes in the fragrance caused by light.
  • Hair and body sprays – light refreshing mists, hair shine sprays with a low oil content, and fabric fresheners in a travel size.
  • Samples and testing – a small volume allows you to try a new recipe in real packaging before a larger batch is filled.

Sprayer and dispensing

The sprayer works mechanically, without a propellant gas. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml, which gives a fine mist suitable for the face. When applying to hair or body, expect to need several presses. Both the sprayer body and the tube are made of polypropylene (PP), which tolerates water-based and alcohol-based contents.

The spread depends on viscosity. The thinner the liquid, the finer the mist. Thin toners, hydrosols and solutions with a low proportion of glycerine work without any problems. As the proportion of glycerine, thickeners or oil increases, the mist turns into a jet and eventually the sprayer stops dispensing.

Oils, emulsions and thickened serums do not belong in the sprayer. They clog the nozzle and the mechanism stops returning. For oil-based products in this volume, a dropper or a treatment pump is more suitable.

The sprayer tube is supplied with extra length. If it reaches beyond the bottom of the bottle, shorten it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The contents are then used up almost completely and the sprayer does not draw in air.

Filling and volume

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, that is to 30 ml, not to the neck. The brimful volume is larger. The difference is a reserve for the tube and the sprayer body, which push part of the contents upwards once screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle overflows when closed.

When filling from a larger container, a small funnel or a syringe without a needle helps. The bottle neck has a diameter of 18 mm and it is easy to pour past it without a funnel.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect it with isopropanol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely upside down. Rinse the sprayer with clean water and pump it several times without liquid so that any residues from production are flushed out of the mechanism and the tube is primed.

Good to know

Amber glass blocks light better than clear glass, but it does not replace protection from heat. Do not leave the filled bottle in the sun or in a car. When preserving water-based contents, the same applies as with other packaging: prepare sprays without a preservative for a few days only and store them in a cool place.

The set can be used repeatedly. After emptying, wash the bottle, rinse the sprayer with water and pump it without liquid. Residues of alcohol-based or strongly scented contents are not completely removed from the plastic of the sprayer, so when changing the fragrance we recommend a new sprayer or longer rinsing. If the mechanism returns more slowly after prolonged use or the mist weakens, replace the sprayer and continue using the glass. For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or with stronger solvents, check how the plastic parts behave in your specific formulation.

Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made bottle plus closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

For disposal, glass is sorted separately and the sprayer belongs with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pour oil into this bottle with a sprayer?
No, the sprayer is not designed for oils. A mechanical sprayer with a narrow nozzle only handles thin water-based or alcohol-based liquids. Oil comes out of it as a jet, clogs the nozzle and the piston stops returning. For oil-based serums and massage oils in a 30 ml volume, a medicine bottle with a dropper or a treatment pump is more suitable.
Why is the bottle filled only to 30 ml and not to the brim?
The nominal volume of 30 ml is the volume the packaging is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume is larger and serves as a reserve for the tube and the sprayer body, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill it to the neck, the contents overflow when the bottle is closed.
Does matte amber glass protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass lets through significantly less light than clear glass. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols, perfume waters and toners with active ingredients that are sensitive to light. However, the glass does not protect against heat, so the bottle must be kept away from the sun and heat sources.
How do I prepare a glass bottle with a sprayer before first use?
Wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect it with isopropanol or ethanol and leave it to dry upside down. Rinse the sprayer with clean water and pump it without liquid so that it is primed. If the tube extends beyond the bottom of the bottle, shorten it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom.
Is the sprayer suitable for alcohol-based perfume waters?
Yes, the polypropylene sprayer tolerates alcohol-based contents and perfume waters are its typical use. With a higher proportion of essential oils in the composition, check whether the plastic parts change the appearance or scent of the contents over time. When changing the fragrance we recommend a new sprayer, because residues of the previous fragrance are not completely flushed out of the plastic.
