The spray pump is optimal mainly for liquid and low-viscosity preparations that can be dispensed in the form of a fine mist (e.g. toners, hydrolats, light water or alcohol solutions). For thicker emulsions or oils it is necessary to verify the functionality of the spraying by a practical test and, if needed, choose a more suitable type of dosing (for example a pump or another bottle intended for more viscous products).

The packaging can be reused if basic hygiene principles are observed. Before each new filling it is necessary to thoroughly clean the bottle and the spray pump and then disinfect them, ideally using a suitable alcohol, for example isopropyl alcohol or plant-based ethanol. Only after drying and checking the cleanliness is the packaging ready for further use. When changing the type of product (e.g. from a perfume spray to a facial toner) we recommend a more thorough rinsing and a test to check whether any residues of the original formulation remain in the spray pump.

First we recommend rinsing the bottle with lukewarm water and a suitable cleaning agent, then thoroughly rinsing it with clean water so that no detergent residues remain. Then it is advisable to disinfect the packaging using alcohol (for example IPA 99 % or ethanol 96 %) and let it air dry. The spray pump itself should be rinsed through with a suitable solution and sprayed a few times into the air so that the internal dosing path is cleaned. When working, pay attention to clean working tools and dry storage before filling.

In this way you can quickly narrow down the selection to the packaging that is most suitable for the specific product and method of dosing, whether it is a spray pump, pump dispenser or a classic closure.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend recycling it according to the rules specified in the parameter table for the product on the Handymade website. The glass bottle can usually be placed in the appropriate glass container after emptying and basic cleaning, while the plastic and metal parts of the spray pump belong in sorted waste collection for the respective material type, if this is possible at the collection point. Before handing it in for collection we recommend removing product residues as much as possible and not disposing of the packaging with regular household waste if there is an option of sorted waste collection.
