Product description

This is a ready-made set for small volumes of dilute aqueous preparations to be dispensed in precise, repeatable doses as a fine mist. It consists of a glass bottle made of milk glass with a nominal volume of 15 ml and a white nasal spray dispenser with an 18/410 thread, which simply screws onto the bottle. It is intended primarily for nasal sprays and other preparations with the same method of application, where a small dose and hygienic, targeted application matter.

Glass is neutral to the contents, does not absorb fragrances or colorants, and does not react with aqueous solutions, hydrosols, or essential oils. The frosted surface of the glass reduces light transmission, helping to protect more sensitive components, while still allowing you to see how much content remains in the bottle. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found with the product.

Why choose this set

  • Precise small dose – with each press, the dispenser releases the same amount, approximately 0.12 ml, so the user does not need to estimate the quantity.
  • Fine mist instead of a stream – the nozzle disperses the liquid into tiny droplets that spread evenly across the mucous membrane or skin without dripping.
  • Hygienic application – the contents do not come into contact with hands or fingers, reducing the risk of contamination during repeated use.
  • Reduced light, visible fill level – frosted glass protects the contents from some light while allowing you to monitor when it is time to refill.
  • Practical size – the small packaging fits in a handbag or pocket and is also suitable for samples or trial batches where you do not want to fill a large volume.

How to use the set

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the container is designed for normal filling; the total volume to the neck is physically larger. The difference provides a reserve for the submerged dip tube of the dispenser, for the air the pump needs when drawing in, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you overfill the bottle, the contents will spill through the neck when screwing on the dispenser and the thread will become contaminated.

The dip tube of the dispenser is supplied longer than this low bottle requires. Before assembling for the first time, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that its angled-cut end reaches just above the bottom of the bottle. The set will then draw out almost all of the contents and the tube will not bend.

After screwing on the dispenser, the pump must be pressed several times without dispensing until the tube and mechanism fill with liquid and an even mist begins to emerge. This is normal behaviour for any mechanical dispenser, not a defect. When applying, hold the bottle upright. If inverted or tilted sharply, the end of the tube rises above the liquid level and the pump draws in air.

The dispenser is designed for thin aqueous liquids. Oils, solutions with a higher proportion of glycerin, gels, and thicker preparations spray poorly or not at all and can clog the mechanism. Always test the behaviour of a specific formulation in the nozzle with a small quantity first.

Which preparations it is suitable for

  • Nasal sprays – saline and isotonic solutions, solutions with sea water or herbal extracts, where a fine mist and a small, repeatable dose are decisive.
  • Hydrosols and floral waters in small packaging – for travel, as a sample or for targeted refreshing.
  • Light aqueous tonics and refreshing mists without an oil phase and without thickeners.
  • Trial batches and samples of aqueous formulations where you want to verify behaviour in a spray dispenser before filling a larger volume.

For oil serums, emulsions, or thickened solutions, choose a different type of closure. All closures with an 18/410 neck from the Handymade range are compatible with the bottle; when combining your own, we recommend checking the seal, dosing, and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Before filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Rinse the dispenser with the same solution: several presses with alcohol, then several presses without dispensing to clear the remaining liquid from the tube and nozzle. Thorough hygiene of the packaging is especially important for preparations intended for nasal use.

Preservation of contents. Aqueous preparations without a preservative deteriorate quickly in small packaging with a dispenser, even though the contents do not come into contact with hands. Preserve the formulation according to its nature, or prepare only the quantity you will use up shortly after filling.

Labelling. The bottle is small and low, so plan for a narrow label; dimensions suitable for labelling are given in the parameters.

Material and compatibility. The bottle is glass; the dispenser is composed of several plastics and steel. Glass does not react with the contents. For formulations with a higher proportion of alcohol or with essential oils, we recommend checking the behaviour of the plastic and metal parts of the dispenser in the finished formulation.

Legislative classification of the preparation. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. Preparations for nasal rinsing or with a purpose other than cosmetic may fall under different regulations; verify the packaging requirements for such use independently.

Recycling. After use, unscrew the dispenser from the bottle. Glass goes into glass waste; the dispenser, being a combination of plastics and metal, is sorted separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does the frosted glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially, yes. Milk glass scatters and reduces transmitted light, so the contents are better protected than in a clear bottle, but not as thoroughly as in brown or blue glass. For ordinary aqueous preparations, hydrosols, and saline solutions, the protection is sufficient; store preparations that are particularly sensitive to light away from direct sunlight as well.
Why does a nasal spray not dispense before first use?
Because the tube and pump mechanism are still empty. After screwing on the dispenser, press the pump several times until it fills with liquid and an even mist begins to emerge. If this does not happen even after several presses, check that the end of the tube reaches below the liquid surface and that the bottle is filled at least to the level of its end.
Is the glass bottle with nasal spray suitable for oil preparations?
No, this set is intended for thin aqueous liquids. Oils and thicker solutions are not dispersed into a fine mist by the dispenser nozzle – they come out as a stream or clog the mechanism. The glass bottle itself is fine with oil; in that case, combine it with a different closure with an 18/410 thread, such as a dropper.
Can the bottle with the nasal spray be cleaned and used again?
Yes, both parts can withstand repeated filling. Wash and disinfect the bottle with alcohol; rinse the dispenser with clean water and then with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, pumping the solution through several times. Allow everything to dry thoroughly. If the nozzle sprays unevenly, the cause is usually dried residue from the contents; soaking and repeated rinsing helps.
How much liquid does the nasal spray bottle hold?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 15 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck is a reserve for the submerged dip tube of the dispenser, the air needed for drawing in, and expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents will spill when screwing on the dispenser and the thread will remain contaminated.
Does an aqueous preparation in a nasal spray need to be preserved?
Yes, unless you use it up shortly after filling. Although the dispenser prevents the contents from coming into contact with fingers, an aqueous environment without a preservative is still a breeding ground for microorganisms. Preserve according to the nature of the formulation, or prepare only small quantities for a few days and always clean the packaging between fillings.
