Product description

Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) is a raw material for hair and skin care cosmetics that has been proven over centuries. Coconut copra — the dried flesh of the fruit — hides not only a rich fatty acid component, but also aromatic compounds that create the characteristic coconut scent. Coconut CO₂-se extract ORGANIC selectively concentrates these aromatic compounds through a two-step process: first, coconut oil is cold-pressed from the copra and in the second step supercritical carbon dioxide passes through it — CO₂ compressed into a special state in which it behaves as an excellent extraction medium. From the oil it selectively extracts precisely the aromatic fractiondelta-lactones and esters responsible for the typical coconut scent — together with triglycerides of lauric and myristic acid. To produce 1 kg of extract, 15–20 kg of coconut oil are needed.
Since CO₂ as an extraction medium does not require chemical solvents, the resulting extract is pure — without solvent residues, heavy metals or inorganic impurities.

Key benefits

  • Authentic coconut scent from nature — delta-lactones and esters give the formulation a pure, natural coconut aroma without synthetic fragrance.
  • Nourishing lipid component — triglycerides of lauric and myristic acid support hydration and the protective barrier of the skin and hair.
  • Pure extract without solvents — supercritical CO₂ extraction leaves zero solvent residues and inorganic impurities.
  • High concentration of active components — 15–20 kg of coconut oil go into 1 kg of extract; the effect is noticeable even at low dosages.
  • ORGANIC quality — raw material from organic farming, certified according to COSMOS.
  • Excellent stability — when properly stored, resistant to oxidation, does not require special antioxidants.

Suitable for products such as

  • hair masks, conditioners and nourishing hair serums
  • shampoos with coconut scent and nourishing effect on the hair
  • products for protecting hair from the sun
  • bath and shower oils
  • face creams, body butters and nourishing serums
  • massage oils and solid massage bars
  • lip balms with natural coconut aroma
  • after-sun skin care products

Use in formulation

  • Phase: oil phase.
  • Solubility: lipophilic — miscible with vegetable oils, butters and other lipophilic components; does not dissolve in water.
  • Mix before use — at temperatures around 25 °C and lower, the extract solidifies into a white soft mass. It is enough to gently heat it in a water bath or leave it at room temperature, it will liquefy again without loss of properties.
  • Compatibility: compatible with most vegetable oils, waxes and esters. In emulsions, incorporate it into the oil phase before emulsification, or add it during cooling below 40 °C if you want to minimise evaporation of aromatic components.

Safety and storage

For external use only. Store in a cool, dry and dark place, tightly closed and out of reach of children.
You can find more detailed information about the product quality in the certificate, which we update with each new batch.

Frequently asked questions

Is coconut CO₂-se extract the same as coconut oil?

No. Coconut oil is pressed directly from copra and contains predominantly triglycerides of fatty acids. CO₂-se extract goes further — from coconut oil, supercritical CO₂ selectively extracts the aromatic fraction: delta-lactones and esters, which are the carriers of the characteristic coconut scent. The result is a raw material with a much more intense aroma than you would get from regular coconut oil.

Why does the extract solidify at low temperature?

This is normal behaviour. Triglycerides of lauric and myristic acid contained in the extract solidify at temperatures around 25 °C and lower — just like coconut oil itself. It is enough to gently heat the extract in a water bath or leave it at room temperature, it will liquefy again without loss of properties.

Can I use it as a natural aromatics instead of a synthetic fragrance?

Yes. Coconut CO₂-se extract gives the formulation a pure, natural coconut aroma coming directly from the fruit. Unlike synthetic fragrance compounds, it is not subject to IFRA limits for perfuming. The intensity of the scent in the final product depends on the composition of the formulation, therefore we recommend always testing the dosage in a test batch.

Is it also suitable for aqueous formulations such as toners or micellar waters?

Not directly. The extract is lipophilic and does not dissolve in water. It can be incorporated into the aqueous phase only with the help of a suitable solubiliser. Its natural environment is oil phases, butters and emulsions.

How does CO₂-se differ from CO₂-to extract?

CO₂-se (selective) is a selective extract — at lower pressure CO₂ extracts predominantly volatile and aromatic components, the result is similar in its character to an essential oil. CO₂-to (total) works at higher pressure and temperature and extracts the full spectrum including waxes and resins. For coconut this means: se extract = intense pure aroma, to extract = fuller lipid profile.

At which stage of production do I add it to an emulsion?

Add it to the oil phase before emulsification — just like other vegetable oils and butters. If it is solid at room temperature, heat it together with the other lipid components. If you want to preserve the aromatic components to the maximum, you can also add it during cooling below 40 °C.
