Product description

The glass bottle with an oil dispenser in a glossy black finish is a ready-made combination of container and closure intended for face and body oils, oil serums, massage oils and other liquid oil products that are dispensed in small amounts without opening the bottle. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate especially with oils sensitive to oxidation. The plastic dispenser with a transparent cap allows precise and clean dispensing straight into the palm or onto the skin.

The set consists of a glass bottle shaped like a medicine vial with a nominal volume of 100 ml, a black oil dispenser with a suction tube and a transparent protective cap. All three parts have the same type of neck, so they fit together tightly and there is no need to buy anything extra. It is suitable for home production as well as for smaller brands that want to set their oil product apart with a dark, understated container.

Why choose this combination

  • Protection from light – the black opaque glass does not let through light, which speeds up the yellowing and oxidation of plant oils and worsens the stability of fragrances. Unlike a clear or amber bottle, it covers the contents completely.
  • Dispensing without opening – with each press the dispenser releases a small, repeatable amount of oil. The contents do not touch your fingers, do not leak down the neck, and fewer impurities get into the bottle than when pouring.
  • Tube almost to the bottom – the suction tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so the dispenser uses up the contents with almost no residue.
  • Transparent cap – protects the dispenser head from dust and from being accidentally pressed in a cosmetic bag or during transport.
  • Glass and oil – glass does not react with plant or essential oils, does not absorb fragrance and can be cleaned and refilled repeatedly.

Nominal and total volume

For every container we list two values. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling and the amount stated on the label. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume all the way up to the neck. The difference between them is the reserve for the tube and body of the dispenser, which push out part of the volume once screwed in, and for the expansion of the oil when the temperature changes. It should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. With this set the reserve is fairly small, so we recommend filling by measure rather than „by eye“, so that the oil does not overflow through the thread after the dispenser is fitted.

What contents the dispenser is suitable for

The oil dispenser is designed for liquid and mildly viscous oils: pure plant oils, oil blends, oil serums with active ingredients, massage and bath oils, hair and beard oils or oil-based facial cleansers. The thinner the contents, the more easily the tube fills and the more even the dose will be.

Thick products, for example butters, oil balms or oils thickened with wax, will not be drawn up by the dispenser or will be dispensed unevenly. For such textures a jar or a wide-neck bottle is more suitable. Water-based products such as toners or hydrosols do not belong in this set, the dispenser is intended for oils; for those choose a spray or a dropper.

After filling and screwing on the dispenser, press the head several times without product until the tube fills and the dispenser begins to release oil. Return the first doses to the bottle or use them up, and only then fit the transparent cap.

With oils prone to yellowing, such as rosehip, linseed or hemp oil, bear in mind that the dispenser is not an airless system. With each press a little air gets into the bottle, so it is worth adding an antioxidant (for example tocopherol) to the formula and filling smaller batches that are used up sooner. The dark glass solves the light, not the access of air.

What is good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely neck down. Rinse the dispenser with warm water by letting it pump through several times, then pump alcohol through in the same way and let it dry. Moisture left in the tube will not dissolve in the oil and could support the growth of microorganisms.

The set can be reused. When changing the contents, first pump the dispenser with a small amount of clean oil or alcohol to remove residues of the previous product from the tube that would alter the scent of the new filling. If the tube bends at the bottom while screwing on, it can be trimmed with sharp scissors.

Contents with a high proportion of essential oils or with alcohol may soften or cloud the plastic parts of the dispenser and cap over time. At the usual concentrations of essential oils in a body or face oil you will usually not encounter this. With concentrated blends and perfume oils we recommend verifying the behaviour of the dispenser on a single piece in advance.

The glossy black surface of the bottle carries labels with light, white or metallic print well; a dark label on dark glass blends in. You will find the label dimensions in the product parameters. The opaque glass does not allow you to see the remaining amount of contents, so when selling it is worth stating on the label the approximate number of doses or the period of use.

The whole set is declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products. The declaration of conformity and certificates are listed with the product.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. A certificate for direct contact with food is held separately only by the glass bottle; the dispenser and transparent cap do not have it. Therefore do not use this assembly for food oils, syrups or herbal extracts intended for consumption.

Closures with the same type of neck as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination we recommend verifying tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation. When recycling, separate the glass bottle from the plastic dispenser and cap and dispose of them separately according to material.

Frequently asked questions

Does a black glass bottle protect oil from light better than an amber one?
Yes, black glass is opaque and lets practically no light through, whereas amber glass only dampens it. For oils sensitive to oxidation, perfume oils and serums with active ingredients this is an advantage. The downside is that you cannot see the contents or their level through the wall. With a dispenser this does not matter, because you do not open the bottle during use.
How much does the oil dispenser release with one press?
One full press releases a dose of approximately 0.18 ml, which corresponds to a few drops of oil. Such dispensing suits face and hair oils, where only a little product is needed per use. For a larger amount, for example for a massage, simply press the head several times.
Is the oil dispenser also suitable for thick oils or balms?
No, the dispenser is intended for liquid and mildly viscous oils. Thick balms, butters or oils thickened with wax will not be drawn up or will be dispensed unevenly and the head may jam. For such textures choose a jar or a wide-neck bottle. For oil serums, massage oils and blends of plant oils the dispenser works reliably.
How much oil should be filled into the bottle with the dispenser?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The reserve above the nominal volume is needed for the tube and body of the dispenser, which push out part of the contents once screwed in, and for the expansion of the oil in warmth. If you fill the bottle to the neck, the oil will overflow through the thread after the dispenser is fitted.
Can a glass bottle with an oil dispenser be reused?
Yes, both the glass and the dispenser can be cleaned and refilled. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with alcohol and let it dry. Pump warm water with detergent through the dispenser, then alcohol, and let it dry completely so that no water remains in the tube. When changing the scent of the contents, bear in mind that the plastic of the dispenser may hold the original scent for a short time.
Can I fill food oil into this bottle?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. A certificate for direct contact with food is held separately only by the glass bottle; the plastic dispenser and transparent cap do not have it. The assembly with the dispenser is therefore intended for cosmetic oils and serums. For food use choose a bottle with a closure that has a food-grade certificate.
