Product description

Sodium Gluconate is a natural multifunctional cosmetic raw material with strong chelating and stabilizing properties, produced by fermentation of glucose (usually from corn or other plant sources) using microorganisms. After fermentation, gluconic acid is formed, which is then neutralized with a sodium salt, resulting in sodium gluconate. In cosmetics it is used mainly as a mild chelating agent that binds metal ions present in water and raw materials, thereby increasing the stability of formulations, protecting active ingredients against oxidation and improving the performance of surfactants. Compared to other chelating agents, it is known for its excellent skin tolerance and suitability for sensitive, baby and natural cosmetics.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

What is Sodium Gluconate and what is it used for?
Sodium Gluconate is the sodium salt of gluconic acid, used in cosmetics mainly as a chelating agent. It helps to bind metal ions, stabilize formulations and protect active ingredients against degradation.
What are chelating agents and why are they important in cosmetics?
Chelating agents are substances that can bind metal ions naturally present in water and raw materials. These ions can cause oxidation, reduce the effectiveness of active ingredients and shorten the shelf life of cosmetics. The use of a chelating agent helps to keep the product stable, effective and of high visual and sensory quality.
Is Sodium Gluconate suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, Sodium Gluconate is considered a very mild chelating agent and is suitable also for sensitive, baby and reactive skin.
