How the pump works

The pump draws the product up through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and dispenses approximately 0.3 ml with a single press. Such a dose corresponds to the amount of serum for one application to the face. With a thicker product, the actual dose may be slightly smaller. The clear overcap protects the nozzle from dust and prevents accidental pressing in a bag or during transport. The glossy black and gold finish of the pump matches the green glass.

A pump with a dip tube is not an airless system, and air enters the bottle when it is pressed, as with any conventional pump. For formulations with sensitive active ingredients, therefore, check the stability in the finished packaging.

Nominal and total volume

The 30 ml figure is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is larger, and you will find the exact value in the parameters. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space in the neck once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the thread when the pump is fitted, and the set might not seal.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water, or to pump ethanol through it, and leave it to dry without product. Water left in the tube would dilute the first dose.

Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature well. Let products heated during production cool to room temperature before filling, and do not pour hot emulsions into a cold bottle. The plastic parts of the pump are made of polypropylene, and the pump also contains aluminium. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, check with a short test using the finished product that the plastic parts do not change and the seal holds.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The inside of the pump is harder to clean, so when you change the formulation or after an oil-based product, it is better to replace it with a new one. Glass goes into separate waste collection sorted by colour, while the pump combines plastic and metal and is separated from the bottle for recycling.
