Sodium silicate is an inorganic compound of silicon and sodium produced by melting silicon (silicon dioxide) with soda at high temperatures. The result is a clear to viscous liquid with high alkalinity. In technical and cleaning formulations it serves as an effective stabilizer, pH regulator, soil-binding agent and anticorrosion agent. Thanks to its physico-chemical properties, it improves the efficiency of cleaning agents, increases their ability to remove grease and at the same time protects metal surfaces against corrosion.
Sodium silicate is a universal stabilizer and pH adjuster that increases the quality and shelf life of cosmetic products.
According to the official EWG database, this raw material has the rating: 1–2 (low risk).
1. What is sodium silicate used for?It is used mainly as a stabilizer, pH regulator and protective agent in cleaning, detergent and technical formulations.
2. Is it suitable for cosmetic products? Not commonly. In cosmetics it is used only exceptionally and at very low concentrations, for example in lifting serums.
3. Is it safe for the skin? No, direct action on the skin can be irritating. It is recommended to use it only in rinse-off or technical products.
4. How should it be dosed correctly?Usually 0.5 – 5 %, depending on the desired alkalinity and the type of cleaning agent.
5. How should it be stored?Store in a closed container, in a dry place, away from moisture and acidic substances.
More detailed information about the product quality can be found in the certificate, which we update with each new batch.
