The packaging can be used repeatedly if hygiene principles are followed, provided it is not mechanically damaged and the material does not show signs of wear. Before each new filling, it is necessary to clean the packaging thoroughly and disinfect it. For disinfection, we recommend using a suitable alcohol-based preparation, for example IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96% denatured, plant-based. In this way, you reduce the risk of microbial contamination and extend the shelf life of your handmade products.

First mechanically remove residues of the original product, then rinse the packaging with a suitable cleaning agent and clean water. After washing, let the packaging dry thoroughly, ideally at room temperature in a clean environment. Before refilling, the packaging must be disinfected – we recommend using alcohol-based disinfectant products such as IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96% denatured, plant-based. After applying the disinfectant, let the packaging dry completely and only then fill it again.

When choosing a closure or dispenser, it is important that it matches the type of neck and the intended use of the product. In the product categories on Handymade you will find closures, droppers, sprayers and pumps that are directly assigned to compatible packaging, so you can be sure that the basic combinations are tested and functional. Nevertheless, we recommend performing your own compatibility test – verify sealing, dosing reliability and the behaviour of the packaging in contact with your specific composition (viscosity, oil content, alcohol content, etc.), so that you achieve an optimal result in real use.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend first emptying it as thoroughly as possible and removing product residues. Then dispose of the packaging in the collection system according to the recommendation given in the parameter table for the specific product on Handymade – there you will find information about the material and the corresponding method of waste sorting. In this way, you ensure that the packaging is included in the correct recycling stream. Do not throw the packaging or the closure into mixed waste if separate collection for the given material type is available in your municipality.
