Use in formulation

• Shea butter is miscible with vegetable oils, esters, waxes and other butters.
• It is compatible with common lipid components used in emulsions as well as in anhydrous cosmetics.
• It is particularly suitable for the oil phase, where it contributes to the richness and structure density of the product.
• When heating, it is usually melted in a water bath; it is recommended to heat it only gently and to avoid unnecessarily overheating the whole batch.
• In emulsions it is used according to the desired consistency and skin feel; in anhydrous products it can form a significant part of the formula.
• When perfuming, its strong natural scent must be taken into account, as it may dominate especially in mildly fragranced or unfragranced products.
• To refine the skin feel, it is often combined with lighter oils or esters so that the final formulation does not feel too heavy.

Physical properties

• At room temperature it is a semi-solid to solid vegetable butter, which melts on contact with the skin.
• The colour is naturally creamy to pale yellow, and may differ slightly between individual batches.
• It is characterised by a strong natural scent, which is a common sign of an unrefined product.
• In finished products it affects the hardness, spreadability and occlusive character of the formula.

• Store in a dry place, well closed, away from direct light and sources of heat.
• Protect from repeated overheating and contamination during dispensing.
• During formulation, monitor the natural odour of the raw material and its impact on the final fragrance of the product.
• Before producing a larger batch, we recommend preparing a small test sample, especially if you combine the butter with delicate fragrances or active ingredients.
• When selling the finished product, it is necessary to assess the safety of the entire formulation as a whole.
