The glass packaging is generally very stable towards most cosmetic components, including oils and common active substances, and the dark glass helps to reduce the light sensitivity of the contents. However, for every new formulation we recommend carrying out your own short-term and long-term compatibility test – especially in the case of a high proportion of acids, strongly alkaline preparations or atypical solvents – in order to verify the behaviour of the product in contact with the packaging and the dispenser.

The bottle can be reused provided that correct hygiene principles are followed. Before each new filling, always clean the packaging thoroughly, mechanically remove residues of the previous product and then disinfect it with a suitable alcohol-based preparation, for example with the products IPA 99 – isopropyl alcohol (/ipa-99-isopropyl-alkohol-1-l/ target="_blank") or Ethanol 96 denatured vegetal (/etanol-96-denaturovany-rastlinny-1-l/ target="_blank"). We recommend applying disinfection also to the dispenser, if its construction allows it, and letting all parts dry completely before the next filling.

After the contents have been used up, we recommend rinsing the bottle immediately with a suitable cleaning agent or a mild detergent and warm water to minimise the deposition of oil and pigment residues. Then rinse the packaging several times with clean water and, if necessary, rinse with alcohol for faster evaporation of moisture. Before the next use, it is necessary to disinfect the packaging with an alcohol solution and let it dry completely. For the dispenser, we recommend performing rinsing and disinfection carefully in order to avoid mechanical damage.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend recycling it in accordance with local waste sorting regulations and the information stated in the product parameters. The glass part of the bottle can usually be sorted, after cleaning, into the container designated for glass, while the plastic or metal dispenser may belong to another fraction (usually mixed waste or according to the specific material). Before handing over for recycling, remove product residues and, if possible, separate the individual materials according to the instructions given with the product on the Handymade website.
