The solvents category includes raw materials that facilitate the dissolution of actives, fragrance ingredients and colorants, improve the dispersion and transport of substances in the aqueous or oil phase and help to achieve a homogeneous, stable texture. The right solvent improves sensory, absorption and overall product usability.
The range includes polyols (humectants with dissolving effect), glycols for perfumes and actives, alcohol solvents for fast-drying products, oil solvents/emollients for lipophilic substances and solubilizers for the clear incorporation of fragrances and essential oils into the aqueous phase.
Practice tip: choose the solvent according to the nature of the solute (hydrophilic vs. lipophilic), the target pH and the desired final feel (dry slip vs. hydrating effect). For fragrances in aqueous products, give preference to solubilizers over conventional solvents.
Vegetable Glycerin 99.5% and Pentylene Glycol ECO improve dissolution in the aqueous phase and also provide a humectant benefit. Dissolution in the aqueous phase and simultaneously increased hydration without stickiness when dosed correctly.Glycerin is suitable for tonics, serums and creams; Pentylene Glycol ECO also acts as a preservative "booster".
Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) is a proven solvent for perfume blends and some heavier soluble actives; it helps stabilize fragrance and improves dispersion in emulsions and gel systems. An excellent choice for perfumations and even fragrance release without haze.Suitable for body lotions, gels and diffusers (depending on product type).
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA 99%) is used in fast evaporating formulations and in technical steps of production or sanitation. Fast drying, degreasing effect and low residuality in the formula.Use it judiciously in cosmetics and in accordance with safety rules.
Isopropyl myristate (IPM 98%) is a lightweight lipophilic carrier for dissolving oil actives and perfumes into the oil phase; it also reduces greasy feel and improves slip. Dry "skin feel" and excellent spreadability without a heavy film.Suitable for body oils, dry oils and creams with a richer oil phase.
Symbio Solv Clear Plus and Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate allow the clear incorporation of essential and fragrance oils into aqueous phase or low-fat gels. Stable, clear fragrance solutions without turbidity and phase separation. Please refer to the respective products for an overview of parameters and dosage.
For fragrances and essential oils in the aqueous phase. The solubilizer will create a clear solution without turbidity and separation, whereas the solvent alone would cause the oil to become milky or float.
Be guided by the solubility of the active: hydrophilic actives prefer aqueous solvents (glycerin, glycols), lipophilic actives and perfumes oil carriers (IPM) or solubilizer if the final product is to be aqueous.
Yes. Glycerin increases hydration, but in higher doses can increase stickiness; Pentylene Glycol has lower stickiness and also acts as a preservative "booster". Adjust dosage to target and sensory tests.
No. IPA is a fast-drying alcohol with a degreasing effect; use it in a targeted manner (e.g. sprays, topical cleaning solutions) and always respect safety and legislative requirements.
