The Stabilo cotton wick is a high-quality supplementary packaging material intended for the production and finishing of candles in glass or other containers. Thanks to its natural structure and even burning, it is suitable for liquid wax formulations which, after solidifying, form a stable, safe and aesthetic product. The cotton fibres ensure reliable burning without excessive smoking, provided the diameter of the wick and container is chosen correctly.
The wick is designed for use in various types of packaging – from smaller glass jars and decorative glasses to designer bottles intended for candles – while allowing even wax consumption and a stable flame. It is suitable for artisan and small semi-professional candle production, where consistent quality and reliable burning behaviour are important.
The cotton wick is used in combination with a suitably selected candle container – for example a glass bottle, jar or pot – and does not require any closures or dispensers. It is important to choose a type of packaging that withstands the temperature of the melted wax and is stable during burning. When selecting a specific container, we recommend checking its temperature resistance and stability on a flat surface to ensure safe use of the finished candle. The combinations of packaging and components intended for candles on Handymade are designed to be practical and functional; however, for all projects we recommend performing your own burn tests in the chosen container.
All technical parameters of the packaging are specified in the attached packaging quality certificate and in the product parameters.
The cotton wick is particularly suitable for stable and heat-resistant containers, such as glass jars, glasses, smaller bottles or pots intended for candles. It is important that the container has a flat bottom, sufficient width for even wax consumption, and is made from a material that safely withstands the temperature of the melted wax and the flame. For new combinations, we always recommend trial burn tests.
It is advisable to first cut the wick with a reasonable allowance according to the height of the container and then fix it in the centre of the bottom using a suitable holder or adhesive dot. After the wax has solidified, the wick should protrude approximately 5–7 mm above the wax level. Before each relighting, it is advisable to trim the wick to this length so that the flame is not too large, which promotes even burning and reduces smoke formation.
When repeatedly pouring candles into the same container, we recommend always using a new section of wick, but the container itself can be reused, provided hygiene and safety principles are observed. Before pouring again, it is advisable to clean the packaging from wax and soot residues and, if necessary, disinfect it with a suitable preparation, for example with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. For disinfection you can use the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based, which help keep the inside of the container clean before the next filling.
If you decide not to use the container any further after the candle has burned out, it is advisable to recycle it according to the material specified in the parameters of the specific packaging on the Handymade website. Remove the remaining wax and any metal or plastic parts of the wick from the container, and sort the packaging material (for example glass or plastic) into the appropriate collection bin. By following the recommended sorting according to the product parameters, you contribute to the careful use of resources and to waste minimisation.
To select suitable packaging, you can use the advanced filter, which you will find at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. In the advanced filter, you can clearly set parameters such as neck type, size, colour or packaging material and thus quickly narrow down the range to bottles, jars or pots that best match your product. Thanks to the filters, you can easily find a suitable container for candles, cosmetics and other projects.
