Product description

Active lipoextract of greater celandine is a lipophilic plant extract of greater celandine (Chelidonium majus), obtained by extraction into sunflower oil. The plant, traditionally used in European herbalism, is employed in modern cosmetics for its potential ability to act on oily and problematic skin types. The extract is standardized to an 11.25 % content of celandine extract, stabilized with natural tocopherol (vitamin E) and is compatible with certified organic cosmetic formulations. Greater celandine / celandine (Chelidonium majus) belongs among traditional European medicinal plants with a long history of use. In cosmetics, it is used primarily in the care of oily, porous and problematic skin and of warts. The lipophilic extraction form into sunflower oil ensures better penetration of bioactive substances into the lipid layer of the skin. Natural tocopherol (vitamin E) serves as an antioxidant and stabilizer, thereby prolonging the shelf life of the resulting extract as well as the final formulation. The extract is GMO free, has not been tested on animals and comes from European production.

Key benefits

  • Herbal active ingredient in oil form – easy incorporation into anhydrous formulations and into the oil phase of emulsions.
  • Support for problematic skin – suitable for formulations focused on impurities, redness and local imperfections.
  • Soothing and comfortable character – usable in products for sensitive, reactive or stressed skin.
  • Antioxidant support thanks to the presence of tocopherol – helps protect the oil phase.
  • Natural origin – plant extract in vegetable oil, also suitable for natural cosmetics concepts.

Suitable for products such as

  • oil-based facial serums and local oil roll-ons
  • lip balms and protective sticks
  • body oils, massage blends, post-shower regenerating oils
  • solid balms, ointments and butters (anhydrous formulations)
  • creams and emulsions – as part of the oil phase
  • hair oils and nourishing masks for the scalp

Use in formulation

  • Recommended dosage: 1 – 10 % depending on the product type and the goal of the formulation (lower levels for everyday products, higher for local and anhydrous preparations).
  • Soluble in: oils and common organic solvents; not soluble in pure water.
  • Miscible with: vegetable oils, butters, waxes, oil macerates; in emulsions it is compatible with the oil phase.
  • Incorporation: add to the oil phase or to the finished product after emulsification.
  • It is recommended to add during the cooling phase (at a temperature below 40 °C).
  • Practical tip: if a fine sediment appears, stir or briefly shake the raw material before use.

Safety and storage

  • Store in a well-closed container, in a dry and cooler place.
  • Protect from prolonged exposure to light and heat.
  • Prevent water from entering the container and avoid unnecessarily long contact with air.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes; for sensitive skin we recommend carrying out a tolerance test with a small amount of the finished product.

Composition

  • HELIANTHUS ANNUUS SEED OIL – carrier oil (sunflower)
  • CHELIDONIUM MAJUS EXTRACT – 11.25 %
  • TOCOPHEROL – 0.5 % (natural tocopherol)

Physical properties

  • Form: oil solution
  • Density: approximately 0.90 – 0.95 g/cm³
  • Flash point: > 200 °C
  • Appearance stability: due to the natural character of the raw material, a fine sediment may form.

FAQ

Why can a fine sediment appear in the lipoextract?

This is common with natural plant extracts – small particles or natural components of the plant may gradually settle slightly over time. Before use, it is enough to shake or mix.

Can the lipoextract affect the colour of the final product?

Yes, herbal extracts in oil can impart a slight tint (especially in clear oils and balms). In emulsions, the colouring is usually less pronounced.

Is it more suitable for day or night care?

Most often it is used in night and regenerating products, but in light emulsions or oils it can also be suitable for daytime – it depends on the rest of the formulation and the sensorial profile.

Can it be combined with acids or retinoids in a single routine?

Within a single routine it is advisable to proceed with caution: for reactive skin, introduce combinations of strong actives (acids, retinoids) with herbal extracts gradually and monitor tolerance.

Is it also suitable for cold process (CP) soap?

In soap, part of the plant components may lose their properties due to the high pH. If you want to get the maximum out of the extract, anhydrous products or emulsions with a more physiological pH are more suitable.
