Product description

Stabilo cotton wick without sustainer – size 4 is intended for professional and hobby candle production in various types of containers and packaging – from glass jars and decorative tumblers to design cups or recycled bottles. Thanks to the high-quality cotton fiber, it provides stable, smooth burning and even wax melting, which is ideal when pouring candles into containers of different shapes and diameters.

The wick is suitable for natural and blended waxes and, with the correct choice of container diameter, helps minimize smoking and tunneling. The stable cotton structure contributes to efficient use of the wax in the packaging and to safer burning in home and semi-professional candle making.

Uses

  • Candle making in glass and ceramic containers – tumblers, jars, cups, recycled bottles and medicine bottles.
  • Filling candles into design cosmetic packaging (for example empty jars and cups from creams or balms).
  • Production of decorative candles in smaller containers suitable as gift packaging.
  • Creating test batches of candles when developing new fragrances and wax blends.
  • Use in artisan and handmade custom candle production for small brands, studios and interior accessory creators.

Packaging advantages

  • Stable cotton structure – high-quality processing of the wick helps maintain constant burning and smooth uptake of wax from the container.
  • Good compatibility with different waxes – suitable for natural, soy, beeswax and blended waxes with the correct choice of packaging diameter.
  • Efficient use of container contents – with the correct wick length and centering, the wax melts evenly, resulting in better use of the full volume of the jar or bottle.
  • Versatility – suitable for testing different types of containers, packaging and candle designs without having to change the basic wick type.
  • Adjustable length – the wick can be shortened according to the height of the specific container or cup, optimizing the burning.

Combining with closures and dispensers

The wick is intended for use in containers without a closure during burning, but in practice it is often combined with various types of packaging that can be closed during storage and transport. When selecting a suitable bottle, medicine bottle, jar or cup, it applies that they are compatible with various types of closures and dosing systems (for example screw caps, droppers, spray tops or practical applicators) according to the selected parameters. Combinations of packaging and closures created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behavior of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation) and, for candles, in addition thoroughly testing safe burning in the specific container.

Technical parameters

All technical parameters of the packaging are stated in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How do I correctly choose the length and number of wicks for my candle container?

Adjust the wick length to the height of the container so that after pouring the wax and curing, approximately 5–7 mm remain above the wax surface at the first lighting. For wider containers it is sometimes appropriate to use more wicks to ensure even melting of the wax across the full diameter. We recommend first making test candles in the same type of packaging that you will use in production and, during testing, observing the width of the melted wax pool, smoking and flame height.

Is this cotton wick also suitable for use with natural waxes and essential oils?

The cotton wick is commonly used in candles made from natural waxes such as soy or beeswax and also in candles containing essential and fragrance oils. However, when changing the type of wax or fragrance, we always recommend performing a test in the specific bottle, jar or cup that you plan to use. Pay particular attention to flame behavior, burn rate and the evenness of wax melting in the selected packaging.

Can I reuse the packaging after the candle has burned out for a new candle or another product?

The packaging in which the original candle was placed can be reused, provided that hygiene principles are followed, for example for another candle, small cosmetics or decorative purposes. Before refilling, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the container of wax residues and impurities, then wash it with a suitable cleaning agent and disinfect it, for example using the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. Packaging prepared in this way can be reused more safely for further filling.

How should I correctly dispose of or recycle the packaging if I do not want to use it further?

If you decide not to reuse the packaging after the candle has burned out, we recommend recycling it according to the material type given in the parameter table for the specific product on the site. Glass containers are usually disposed of in the glass recycling bin after removal of wax residues, plastic packaging in the sorted plastic container according to local rules. Always adapt the exact method of recycling to the material marking and recommendations in your municipality to maximize the material recovery rate.

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

When selecting a suitable bottle, jar or cup, we recommend using the extended filter in the packaging material categories. The extended filter is located at the top of the page after clicking on a specific packaging category and allows you to filter products according to parameters such as neck type, size, color and material. This way you will more quickly find packaging that matches your formulation, product type and the intended dosing method.
