Candle colorants – stable pigments for a pure shade and uniform coloration

The candle colorants category offers a wide range of pigments for soy, paraffin and blend waxes. A properly chosen colorant ensures a pure shade, good opacity and uniform coloration without settling or streaks.

The colorants are suitable for container and pillar candles; you set the color intensity by dosage and thorough mixing into the melted wax. For strongly tinted candles, check compatibility with the wick (flame, sooting) and, if necessary, adjust wick thickness or fragrance.

Practical tip: add the colorant to the wax at the temperature recommended by the wax manufacturer, mix for 1–2 minutes and make a test pour. When combined with fragrances, also test the “cold/hot throw” – an intense color may visually influence the perception of the scent.

White and lightening shades

Neutral white increases the opacity and purity of the shade (also suitable for subtle pastel tones). Clean, opaque base for pastel and full colors. For stronger coloration, use a higher dosage or combine with a full‑color pigment.

Yellow and orange spectrum

Warm, sunny shades: sunflower yellow, light yellow, orange, light orange, warm orange and spicy cinnamon. Bright, vivid tones with excellent flame visibility. Ideal for autumn and kitchen scents (citrus, spices).

Red, purple and wine tones

Intense and elegant: red, purple, wine red and fruity blackberry. Rich, saturated colors for festive and romantic collections. For deeper tones, add a pinch of dark brown or black.

Blue and green shades

Cool and fresh palettes: royal blue, ocean blue, azure green, emerald green, pea green, lime green, ultramarine green and classic green. Clean, stable shades for fresh, natural or marine collections. Can be toned with white for a pastel effect.

Purple and brown neutrals

Noble purple and earth‑like shades brown, dark brown complement autumn, gourmand and woody fragrances. Elegant natural spectrum for woody, spicy and gourmand candles. If softening is needed, tone with white.

Black for deep and smoky accents

Black creates a deep, dramatic effect and highlights the premium character of the collection. Minimalist elegance with high contrast. To smooth the undertone, add a pinch of dark brown.

Practical recommendations and blending

Dosage: start low (e.g. 0.05–0.2 % of wax weight) and increase in small steps up to the target intensity.
Blending: disperse the pigment evenly in the melted wax and mix for at least 60–120 seconds; filter through a fine sieve if needed.
Wick and fragrance: dark, highly pigmented candles may require a thicker wick; always perform a burn test with the final shade and fragrance.
Batch‑to‑batch: for large series, keep samples of the shade and pour temperature to ensure repeatability.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How much colorant to add to soy vs. paraffin wax?

Start with a low dosage (e.g. 0.05–0.1 %) and gradually increase according to the color intensity. Soy wax tends to be slightly more “milky”, so it may require a slightly higher dosage than paraffin for the same saturation.

When to add the colorant to the wax and how to mix?

Sprinkle the colorant into fully melted wax at the recommended temperature for that wax and mix for 1–2 minutes. Before pouring, make a test pour and check the uniformity.

Will a dark color affect burning and the wick?

Strongly pigmented candles may burn more slowly and require a thicker wick. Always test the finished shade with the specific fragrance; adjust the wick or colorant concentration according to the result.

Is it possible to achieve a pastel shade?

Yes. The basis is white and very low doses of the chosen color pigment. Add in small steps and compare with a reference sample.
