Cosmetic oils

The cosmetic oils category includes vegetable oils pressed from seeds, kernels and fruits, which form the basis of the oil phase in natural cosmetics. They are a key component in the formulation of creams, serums, balms, massage oils and hair care products. They provide the skin with nourishment, softness and support its natural regeneration.

The range includes a wide spectrum of oils – from classics such as almond, jojoba, argan and grape seed to exotic ones such as apricot kernel, rosehip or raspberry seed. Each of them has specific properties, a particular fatty acid and vitamin profile, which are suitable for different skin types or purposes of use. Differences between individual types consist mainly in the processing method, fatty acid composition and their oxidative stability.

Vegetable oils from Handymade.sk come from verified sources, are cold-pressed and suitable for both professional and home cosmetic production. Their quality, purity and natural composition ensure efficacy even in the most demanding formulations.

You can find other basic lipophilic raw materials in the Butters category.

Almond oil

A light, well-absorbed oil suitable for all skin types, including children’s and sensitive skin. It softens, protects and supports skin elasticity without leaving a greasy feeling. You can find more information in the Almond oil product.

Argan oil

A luxurious oil rich in vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids, suitable for dry, mature and damaged skin. It regenerates, improves skin suppleness and protects it against oxidation. Details can be found in the Argan oil product.

Jojoba oil

A stable, universal oil with a unique composition similar to the skin’s natural sebum. It balances oily and dry skin, regulates sebum production and prolongs the shelf life of cosmetic emulsions. You can find more information in the Jojoba oil product.

Grape seed oil

A light oil with a high content of linoleic acid and antioxidants, suitable for oily and combination skin. It is quickly absorbed, refines skin texture and does not leave a greasy film. You can find more about its use in the Grape seed oil product.

Apricot kernel oil

A gentle, fast-absorbing oil suitable for dry, sensitive and children’s skin. It improves skin elasticity, does not leave a greasy film and is also ideal for facial serums or emulsions. You can find more information in the Apricot kernel oil product.

Marula oil

An exotic oil with excellent oxidative stability, suitable for anti-age and regenerating formulations. It supports skin elasticity, improves its tone and reduces signs of ageing. Details can be found in the Marula oil product.

Rosehip oil

An oil rich in linolenic acid and vitamins C and A, ideal for mature, dry and scarred skin. It regenerates, evens out skin tone and supports cell renewal. You can find more information in the Rosehip oil product.

Raspberry seed oil

A light oil with strong antioxidant activity and a natural SPF effect. It supports skin protection against UV radiation, soothes and improves its elasticity. You can find more information in the Raspberry seed oil product.

Oil macerates

Macerates are produced by steeping plants, herbs or flowers in a vegetable oil, which in this way acquires their active substances and properties. They combine the nourishing power of vegetable oils with the benefits of herbal extracts. You can find more information and the range on offer in the Macerates and extracts category.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between virgin, refined and unrefined oil?

Virgin oils (cold-pressed) are obtained by mechanical pressing without the use of heat or chemicals, thus retaining the maximum amount of nutrients, vitamins and their natural aroma. Unrefined oils are fresh and have a more intense colour and scent. Refined oils are purified, have a longer shelf life and a neutral aroma – suitable for hypoallergenic cosmetic products and perfumed formulations.

How to choose the right oil according to skin type?

For dry skin, richer oils (avocado, argan, macadamia) are suitable, while for oily and acne-prone skin, light oils with a high linoleic acid content (grape seed, raspberry seed, hemp) are recommended. For mature skin, regenerating oils with antioxidants (rosehip, marula, sea buckthorn) are advised.

How are oils used in cosmetic formulations?

Oil forms the oil phase of emulsions, softens the texture and binds active substances. It is used at a concentration of 5–50 % depending on the product type – less in serums, more in butters and body creams. It is recommended to combine different types of oils to achieve a balanced fatty acid profile.

Are vegetable oils also suitable for hair care cosmetics?

Yes, for example coconut, argan, marula and castor oils improve hair shine and elasticity, protect the ends and strengthen the scalp. They are used in masks, oil wraps or serums for hair ends.

How to store vegetable oils?

Store oil in closed bottles, away from sunlight and heat. After opening, use within 6–12 months. Sensitive oils (e.g. rosehip, raspberry seed) are best stored in the refrigerator to prolong their shelf life.
