A clear plastic bottle with a pump dispenser for 100 ml is a ready-to-use combination of bottle and closure for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed by pressing the pump. The PET bottle is lightweight and shatterproof, making it suitable for the bathroom, shower, and travel.

The tall, slim shape is easy to hold and takes up little space on a shelf. Which products it is suitable for

The pump works reliably with liquid to medium-viscosity products that flow freely to the tube on their own: liquid soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions, lighter creams, facial cleansing gels, and massage or body oils. With very thick creams, butters, and balms, a cavity forms around the tube and the pump stops drawing product. For such products, a jar is more suitable.

Products with solid particles are also unsuitable, such as scrubs with salt, sugar, or ground kernels. The particles clog the pump valve. Very thin, water-based products, such as tonics or hydrolats, can be dispensed with a pump, but are more conveniently applied with a spray bottle.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. Total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides room for the pump body and tube, which displace some of the contents when screwed in, and for product expansion during temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise, the contents will overflow through the thread when the pump is attached.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Wash the bottle with lukewarm water and a small amount of detergent, rinse, and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Flush the pump by pressing it several times in the disinfectant solution and allow everything to dry thoroughly. Residual water in the container increases the risk of microbial contamination of the product.

Pump tube. If the tube rests on the bottom and bends after fitting, trim it with clean scissors at an angle so that it ends just above the bottom. The angled end will not suction to the bottom, allowing the pump to empty the bottle almost completely.

Light sensitivity of contents. Products containing vegetable oils prone to oxidation, natural colorants, or light-sensitive active ingredients should be stored away from direct sunlight, or a dark-coloured container should be chosen for them.

Essential oils and solvents. PET tolerates typical cosmetic concentrations of fragrances and essential oils well. Undiluted essential oils and mixtures with a high proportion of solvents are not suitable for plastic containers. With an atypical formulation, verify the behaviour of the container using a test sample.

Label and closures. The smooth bottle wall is suitable for a self-adhesive label; the dimensions needed for its design are listed in the product parameters. Contact with cosmetics. Both the bottle and the pump are suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and a declaration of conformity is available with the product. The set is not intended for food.

Waste sorting. The pump dispenser is made from multiple materials; separate it from the PET bottle before disposal.
