Product description

The glass bottle with a black fine mist sprayer is designed for filling with facial mists, toners, hydrosols and hair sprays in a volume of 50 ml. The glossy black glass is opaque, so it protects the contents from light better than clear glass and gives the finished product a uniform dark look. The sprayer is included in the set, so there is no need to look for a separate closure.

The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not have such a certificate, so the set is intended for cosmetic products, not for home-made oils or syrups.

What it is suitable for

  • Face and body mists – water-based solutions with active ingredients, applied as a fine spray without touching them with your hands.
  • Hydrosols and toners – dark glass slows down the changes in scent and colour that light causes in hydrosols and extracts.
  • Hair sprays and leave-in conditioners – the 50 ml volume suits samples, travel packs or smaller batches where the contents are used up quickly.
  • Alcohol-based sprays – eau de parfum and air fresheners. Neither alcohol nor essential oils damage the glass.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, you fill a small bottle with exactly as much as you need for testing.

How to work with the set

The sprayer screws onto the neck of the bottle and its tube reaches all the way to the bottom. Before first use, press the sprayer several times to prime it until the tube fills and the spray starts to atomise evenly. One dose is approximately 0.14 ml, which is enough for a fine mist on the face.

The sprayer works best with liquids close to water in consistency. Thicker solutions, gel formulations or oil blends may be released as a stream instead of a mist, or may clog the sprayer. We recommend testing the behaviour of your specific formulation on one bottle before you fill the whole batch.

For water-based and hydrosol formulations, plan to add a preservative. Neither the glass nor the sprayer preserves the contents, and repeated pressing draws air into the bottle, so an unpreserved solution spoils faster.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values leaves room for the sprayer tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when the sprayer is screwed on, and alcohol-based fillings have nowhere to expand.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the sprayer with clean water or alcohol and spray it several times so that no water remains in the tube. Residual moisture dilutes the contents and can cause cloudiness in anhydrous alcohol-based sprays.

Opaque glass does not show how much of the contents is left in the bottle. You can tell that it is nearly empty by the behaviour of the sprayer or by the weight of the bottle.

The bottle is reusable. After it is emptied, wash it, disinfect it and dry it in the same way as before the first filling. After use with contents containing essential oils or dyes, the sprayer may retain the scent and colouring, so when you change the contents it is safer to replace it with a new one.

Glass tolerates heat, but a sudden change in temperature does not suit it. Let hot contents cool to at least lukewarm before filling the bottle. The polypropylene sprayer is not intended for hot liquids.

If you combine this bottle with a different closure yourself, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation. Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range.

When sorting waste, unscrew the sprayer from the bottle. The glass belongs in glass recycling and the PP sprayer in plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the glossy black glass is opaque and lets no light through to the contents. It is a better choice than clear glass for hydrosols, extracts and solutions with essential oils, which change colour and scent in light. However, light is only one factor. The contents are also affected by temperature and by the air that enters the bottle when the sprayer is pressed.
Is the bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, while the sprayer does not have such a certificate. The whole set is therefore declared only for cosmetic products such as toners, mists or hair sprays.
Can I spray oil or a thick serum through the sprayer?
The sprayer is built for liquids with a water-like consistency. Pure oils and thick serums usually do not form a mist, and either come out as a stream or clog the sprayer. Hydrosols, toners, alcohol-based sprays and water-based solutions with low viscosity are suitable. With every new formulation, test the behaviour of the sprayer on one bottle beforehand.
How do I prepare the glass bottle with a sprayer before the first filling?
Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry upside down. Rinse the sprayer and spray it several times without any liquid to get the water out of the tube. After filling, press it several times again until the tube fills with the liquid and the spray starts to atomise evenly.
Can I fill the bottle with an alcohol-based spray or eau de parfum?
Yes, neither alcohol nor essential oils damage the glass, and the opaque glass protects the fragrance components from light. With a higher proportion of alcohol and essential oils, we recommend checking that the sprayer stays tight and dispenses evenly over the long term. Do not fill the bottle above the nominal volume, so that the contents have room to expand when the temperature changes.
