Product description

The Stabilo cotton wick represents a professional solution for safe and stable burning of candles made from various wax blends. Thanks to the used coreless cotton fibre, the wick is designed to ensure even burning, optimal fragrance evaporation and a clean flame without excessive smoking when used correctly.

This type of wick is ideal for candle makers who place emphasis on consistent burning quality, reliable flame draw and good interaction with quality wax, fragrances and colourants. A suitably chosen wick size makes it possible to create candles that burn out effectively up to the edges, which minimizes unused wax residue.

Possible uses

  • Production of decorative candles in glass containers, jars and pots
  • Candles in ceramic and metal containers suitable for withstanding heat
  • Tealights, votive candles and design candles in smaller containers
  • Aromatic candles with added fragrance oils and blends
  • Soy, paraffin, palm and mixed wax systems (according to your own compatibility tests)
  • Decorative and gift candles where flame aesthetics and even burning are important

Packaging benefits

  • Stability of the wick material – quality cotton fibres ensure a consistently straight flame with a suitable combination of wax, container diameter and additives.
  • Cleaner burning – a correctly chosen wick minimizes smoking and soot formation on the walls of the candle container.
  • Universal use – the cotton wick is suitable for various types of waxes and containers (glass vial, jar, pot) intended for candle production.
  • Predictable behaviour – the standardized wick size makes repeatable production and scaling up of output easier.
  • Optimization of wax consumption – with a correctly chosen container diameter, the wick helps to use the wax efficiently with minimal residue.

Combining with closures and dispensers

  • The cotton wick is intended for use in candle containers, jars and pots, where it replaces the function of “dispensing” through flame regulation.
  • When producing candles in packaging that you can find on Handymade.sk (glass containers, vials, medicine bottles, pots), we recommend choosing only such combinations that are materially and thermally suitable for contact with a burning candle.
  • Combinations of packaging and accessories for candles that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (wick stability, burning, behaviour of wax and packaging during prolonged burning).

Technical parameters

  • All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
  • Before starting serial production, we recommend making trial candle samples in the specific container and with the specific wax blend.
  • The correct wick length and its alignment in the container are essential for safe function and an attractive flame appearance.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose the right size of cotton wick for my candle?

Always adapt the choice of wick size to the diameter of the container, the type of wax and the amount of added fragrances or colourants. We recommend starting with test pours – fill several smaller test containers with the same wax but with different wick lengths and possibly different wick types. After several hours of burning, observe the width of the melted wax “pool”, the flame height and any smoking. The ideal wick will create a sufficiently wide pool without tunnelling and without excessive smoke. For serial production, always follow your own compatibility tests.

Is it possible to reuse the wick and the candle container?

You can reuse the container after the candle has burned out, provided that hygiene principles are observed, for example for a new candle or for another suitable content. Before refilling, it is necessary to mechanically clean the container from wax residues and disinfect it thoroughly, for example using IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. The wick itself is intended for single use in a specific candle; for repeated production it is necessary to use a new piece of wick.

How to safely dispose of and recycle the container after the candle has burned out?

If you decide not to reuse the container after the candle has burned out, it is suitable to recycle it according to the recommendations given in the parameters of the specific packaging on Handymade.sk. After removing wax residues, place the container in the appropriate separated waste collection according to the material (for example glass or another packaging material, if this is stated in the parameter table). In this way you minimize waste and ensure more environmentally considerate handling of used packaging.

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

To choose a suitable vial, jar or container, you can use the extended filter, which you can find at the top of the page after clicking on a specific packaging category. In the extended filter you can clearly set parameters such as neck type, size, colour and packaging material. In this way you quickly narrow down the offer to packaging that is suitable for your specific product or candle type and more easily find the optimal solution for your project.

What should I pay attention to when working with a cotton wick in candle making?

It is important to ensure that the wick is set straight in the centre of the container and is stably fixed when pouring the wax. Before the first lighting, we recommend trimming the wick to a suitable length so that the flame is not too high. When adding fragrances, colourants and other additives, observe whether they change the flame behaviour. Test each new formula in a smaller series in order to verify even burning, safe behaviour of the container and flame cleanliness under real conditions of use.
