Technical Sodium Benzoate is not declared according to cosmetic requirements for purity, documentation, specification and safety assessment for cosmetic products. Cosmetic grade must meet requirements suitable for raw materials used in products applied to the skin.
No. This product is of technical grade and is therefore not recommended for use in creams, toners, shampoos or other cosmetic products. For cosmetics, it is necessary to use a raw material with cosmetic documentation and an appropriate safety assessment.
In technical and non-cosmetic laundry blends, it can be included as an auxiliary powder component. However, it must be taken into account that conventional washing powders are alkaline, which influences its behaviour and limits its significance as a preservative component.
pH affects the balance between sodium benzoate and benzoic acid. In a more acidic environment a higher proportion of undissociated benzoic acid is formed, which is significantly more important in preservation systems than the sodium salt itself.
Yes, Sodium Benzoate is readily soluble in water. When preparing an aqueous solution, we recommend adding it gradually while stirring so that it dissolves evenly and without clumps.
It is not suitable as an oil-soluble component because it is practically insoluble in oils. If it is used in a formulation with an oil phase, it must be incorporated into the water phase or into dry powder blends, depending on the type of product.
In dry technical blends it can be combined with soda or sodium percarbonate, but it is recommended to carry out a small trial batch. The final behaviour depends on the moisture level, pH, ratio of components and storage conditions of the blend.
