Product description

Stabilo cotton wick is a professional wick designed for safe and stable burning of candles made from natural and blended waxes. Thanks to the high-quality cotton fibre and precise braiding, it is suitable for producing both decorative and utility candles where uniform flame intensity and optimal wax burn-off are important. The wick is supplied without metal parts, which allows its flexible use in various types of containers, cups, jars and other packaging according to your manufacturing technology.

Possible uses

  • Hand-poured candles in glass containers, jars and decorative cups
  • Candles in cosmetic jars and packaging intended as gift packaging
  • Wax blends with essential oils and fragrance blends for interior aroma candles
  • Decorative candles in recycled bottles and vials adapted for candles
  • Soy, palm, rapeseed, beeswax and blended waxes with a suitably chosen container diameter
  • Candles intended for smaller containers, tealight cups or designer packaging made from durable material

Packaging benefits

  • Stable cotton structure – high-quality fibres ensure consistent burning and minimise smoke formation under properly selected conditions.
  • Predictable burning behaviour – the wick is designed for even melting of the wax in the container, which supports efficient use of the candle content.
  • Universal use in packaging – suitable for a wide range of containers, jars, cups and bottles intended for candles, so you can flexibly choose the design of the final packaging.
  • Possibility to adjust the length – can be easily shortened according to the height of the specific container, which facilitates the production of different candle sizes.
  • Good compatibility with natural waxes – suitable for formulations where a clean flame and the lowest possible smoking are important, with the correct combination of wick diameter, container and wax.

Combining with closures and dispensers

  • The cotton wick is intended to be integrated into a suitable container – bottles, glass jars, cups or other heat-resistant packaging intended for candles.
  • When choosing packaging, prioritise stable containers with a flat bottom surface that allow safe attachment of the wick to the base.
  • When using packaging that was originally cosmetic (jars, cups, bottles), we recommend verifying its heat resistance and suitability for use with candles.
  • Combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and the behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

Technical parameters

  • It is always advisable to carry out a trial pour of candles in the specific container to verify flame behaviour, wax pool formation and the total burn time.
  • When combining with different types of wax (pure natural, blended, coloured or perfumed), we recommend adjusting the wick length and testing several configurations.
  • All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.

FAQ – Most frequently asked questions

How do I choose the correct length and type of cotton wick for my candle container?

Always adapt the choice of wick to the diameter and shape of the container, the type of wax and the amount of added fragrances or colourants. It is recommended to start with a standard length, anchor the wick at the bottom of the container and, after the wax has solidified, trim it to approximately 5–7 mm. It is then advisable to carry out a test burn and observe whether the flame creates an even wax pool without excessive smoking or tunnelling. If necessary, adjust the length or choose a different wick diameter according to the test results.

Is it possible to use the cotton wick repeatedly in the same candle container?

The wick itself is intended for single use within one candle; however, the packaging (jar, container, cup or bottle) can be reused if hygiene and safety principles are observed. Before pouring again, the packaging must be thoroughly cleaned of wax residues, impurities and soot, and then disinfected with a suitable agent, for example isopropyl alcohol IPA 99 % Isopropyl alkohol 1 l or plant ethanol Etanol 96 % denaturovaný rastlinný 1 l. This ensures a clean surface of the container and more stable burning of the new candle.

What should I watch out for when combining the cotton wick with different waxes and fragrances?

Each wax has different density, melting point and combustion properties, and added fragrances and colourants further influence its behaviour. With a higher proportion of perfumes, a slightly stronger or shorter wick may be needed to prevent smoking or an excessively high flame. We recommend testing several combinations in the same container, monitoring flame intensity, the amount of wax remaining after burnout and the degree of smoking. Only on the basis of these trials should you choose the optimal setting for serial production.

How do I correctly recycle the packaging in which I use the cotton wick and candles?

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, it is advisable first to remove the remaining wax and wick and then recycle it according to the type of material stated in the parameters of the specific product on the website. Glass containers are usually sorted into glass collection after cleaning, plastic packaging into the appropriate plastic recycling stream and metal components according to local rules for metal waste. Always follow the recycling symbols and recommendations provided for the given packaging in the e-shop to ensure the most environmentally considerate handling of materials.

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

The simplest way is to use the advanced filter in the packaging category. After clicking on the relevant category in the e-shop, you will find the advanced filter at the top of the page. Using it, you can select packaging according to several parameters, such as neck type, size, colour or material. This allows you to quickly narrow down the range to bottles, jars, cups or other containers that best match the desired design and the technical requirements of your product or candles.
