Stabilo cotton wick without tab is a universal cotton wick intended for candle making in various types of containers, jars, glass bottles or decorative packaging. Thanks to its high-quality processing, it is suitable for poured candles made from different waxes, where, with the correct choice of candle diameter and wax composition, it ensures stable burning and even consumption of the fill without excessive smoking.
The wick is wound in practical packaging that allows you to flexibly adjust the length for the specific container – from smaller decorative jars to taller vessels. In combination with a suitable wax base and optional attachment to a tab or holder, it provides a professional result even in home candle making.
As this is a separate wick, it is suitable for a wide range of containers, bottles, tins and jars that you choose according to your own design and type of candle. When selecting a specific container, we recommend taking its width, height and material into account in order to achieve optimal burning and safety when using the candle. The packaging and accessory combinations created directly on Handymade are designed to be practical and functional; however, for every individual combination of packaging, wax, fragrance and wick, it is always necessary to carry out your own burning and compatibility tests.
All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
Always adapt the wick length to the height of the container so that, after pouring the wax and placing it into a tab or holder, it slightly protrudes above the rim of the packaging and can be trimmed to the recommended working length before lighting. For taller containers, keep in mind that it is advisable to test the wick in the specific wax and fragrance, because the composition of the blend affects burning. During the first test, always prepare to trim the wick after the candle has set in order to achieve an even and not overly long flame.
The wick is intended as a consumable material, but the packaging itself (jar, bottle or tin) in which you make the candle can be reused repeatedly if hygiene principles are observed. Before each new wax pour, it is advisable to mechanically remove wax residues, wash the container thoroughly and disinfect it with a suitable alcohol‑based preparation, such as isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. For this purpose you can use the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant‑based, which help remove fragrance residues and impurities before reusing the packaging.
When testing the candle, always monitor the size of the flame, the degree of smoking and tunnelling in relation to the diameter and shape of the container. It is important that, during the recommended burning time, the wax melts evenly up to the edges and that an excessively high flame does not form. When working with fragrances and dyes, take into account that they can change flame behaviour, so we recommend carrying out several trial fills in the same container and recording the ideal wick length and position.
After the candle has burned out, allow the container to cool completely and remove the remaining wax and the metal or plastic parts of the wick. The method of recycling the packaging depends on the material listed in the parameters of the specific product on the website – glass packaging normally belongs in glass collection, plastic containers in the respective plastic collection, and metal components in metal waste, if the local sorting system allows it. Always follow local waste sorting rules and the information given for the specific packaging type in the e‑shop.
To make packaging selection easier, we recommend using the extended filter, which you will find at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. In the extended filter you can clearly select parameters such as neck type, approximate size, colour and material of the packaging and thus narrow down the range to products suitable for your formulation or candle design. Thanks to this, you will quickly find suitable bottles, jars, tins or containers that you can combine with this cotton wick.
