Product description
When filling toners, hydrosols and eau de parfum, what matters is packaging with a dispensing mechanism that releases the contents in a fine mist and also protects them from light. This amber glass medicine bottle with a black fine mist sprayer, 15 ml, is designed for exactly these liquid cosmetic products: facial toners, hydrosols, refreshing mists, alcohol-based eau de parfum and samples. Amber glass reduces light exposure, so contents containing essential oils or plant extracts change their fragrance and colour more slowly. The small volume suits a handbag, travel and test batches while a formulation is still being fine-tuned.
The set is supplied as a ready-made pair of bottle and closure. Both the glass medicine bottle and the sprayer are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
How the set works
The sprayer has a black top with a press-down head, a thread that screws directly onto the neck of the bottle and a dip tube reaching the bottom. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. This is enough to refresh the face, mist the décolleté or apply eau de parfum to the wrist. The contents do not need to be poured into your palm, and each press delivers roughly the same dose.
Spraying works best with thin, watery or alcohol-based contents. Thick serums, gel preparations and viscous oil blends will not be dispersed into a mist by the mechanism; they are more likely to come out in droplets or clog the nozzle. Light oils can be dispensed through the sprayer, but the spray is coarser than with water. We recommend testing the behaviour of the mechanism with your specific formulation.
What it is suitable for
- Facial toners and hydrosols – water-based products applied by misting over the whole face. Dark glass protects the volatile components of hydrosols from light.
- Eau de parfum and eau de toilette – alcohol-based compositions are applied from the bottle without your fingers touching the contents, and 15 ml corresponds to a common travel size.
- Hair and body mists – thin preparations with hydrosols, glycerine or aqueous extracts.
- Samples and testers – a small batch is enough when fine-tuning a formulation or handing out samples, and each tester has its own sprayer.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve. Once the sprayer is screwed on, its dip tube is immersed in this reserve, and space remains for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill only up to the nominal volume. If you fill up to the neck, the contents will overflow through the thread when the sprayer is fitted and the head will become sticky.
Before fitting the sprayer for the first time, compare its dip tube with the height of the medicine bottle. If it is longer, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. A bent tube does not draw liquid and the sprayer only dispenses air.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the medicine bottle with warm water, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let it dry completely. Rinse the sprayer with the same liquid by pressing it several times and let it drip dry. Residual water in the mechanism would dilute the first doses of the contents.
The sprayer is made of polypropylene. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or other solvents, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the mechanism in the finished formulation before filling a whole batch.
Water-based toners and hydrosols need a preservative regardless of the colour of the glass. Dark packaging slows down changes caused by light; it does not solve microbial stability.
The set can be used repeatedly. After it is emptied, the glass and the sprayer are washed and disinfected in the same way as before the first filling. After oil-based or sticky contents, rinse the tube and the nozzle with warm water with a little surfactant and finally with clean water. For recycling, the parts are separated: the glass goes with glass and the sprayer with plastics.
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of this medicine bottle with a dropper or cap, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
The sprayer is a dispensing mechanism; when transported lying down or when shaken, a small amount of the contents may seep around the head. For travel, place the set in a resealable bag and transport it upright.
