Eco cotton wick is a natural, purely cotton consumable material intended for the production of homemade candles, scented decorations and accessories for gift sets. In combination with a suitable container, jar or bottle, it makes it possible to create original custom-made candles – from smaller decorative pieces to larger designer candles. The cotton wick ensures even burning and is suitable for various types of waxes when the wick and container diameter are correctly chosen. The pack contains a larger number of pieces, which makes this product ideal for craft workshops, small manufacturers and hobby candle makers.
The cotton wick is used in combination with a suitable candle container or packaging – most often with a glass jar, pot or other heat-resistant pack. When creating the candle, it is important to select the correct container diameter, wax type and wick length so that the burning is stable. For gift packaging, the candle can be combined with additional packaging for cosmetics or aromatherapy (for example bottles with oils or diffusers) according to the products selected on Handymade. Combinations of packaging and closures created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).
All technical parameters of the packaging are listed in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
The choice of wick depends on the container diameter, the type of wax used and the amount of added fragrances or colourants. It is recommended to first create test candles in the same jar or bottle in which you plan to sell the final product. Observe whether the wax melts evenly, the candle does not smoke unnecessarily and the flame is neither too small nor too large. For strongly fragranced or coloured candles it may be necessary to choose a slightly stronger wick than for pure waxes without additives.
The cotton wick is a consumable material intended for single use in a specific candle, however you can test and use different pieces from the pack in various containers, jars and bottles. If you want to reuse the container after the candle has burned down, this is possible if hygiene principles are observed – the remaining wax must be removed, the container thoroughly cleaned and, before refilling, disinfected with a suitable agent, for example isopropyl alcohol IPA 99 % or plant-based ethanol Ethanol 96 %. This will ensure a clean surface and better adhesion of the new wax.
The container intended for the candle should be clean, dry and heat-resistant. Before pouring the wax, we recommend cleaning the packaging from dust and impurities and, in case of repeated use, disinfecting it, for example with alcohol-based preparations. It is advisable to trim the wick to the required length before fixing, stabilise it using a metal sustainer or glue intended for candles and centre it so that the flame burns evenly. After pouring the wax, allow the candle to cool and stabilise sufficiently before lighting it for the first time.
On the Handymade website an extended filter is available which helps you quickly find a suitable bottle, jar or pot for candles and cosmetics. After clicking on the selected packaging category you will find the filter at the top of the page. In it you can filter the packaging in detail according to neck type, size, colour and material. Thanks to this you can easily select the packaging that will best suit your product in terms of design, volume and compatibility with closures or other components.
If you decide not to reuse the container after the candle has burned down or after formulation testing, it is appropriate to recycle it according to the material stated in the parameters of the specific packaging on the Handymade website. Glass packaging is normally sorted into glass containers after removing wax residues and decorations, while plastic or metal components belong in the appropriate collection bins according to the type of plastic or metal. Wax residues and used wicks should be disposed of in mixed waste unless special collection is available in your area. By following the recommended sorting of packaging materials you help reduce environmental burden and support the circulation of raw materials.
