Product description

The ECO cotton wick is a practical tool for safe and even burning of natural candles. Thanks to its cotton composition, it is suitable for working with vegetable waxes and beeswax, where it helps ensure a stable flame and optimal combustion without unnecessary smoking. High-quality wicks are crucial when producing candles filled into various types of containers – from glass jars and cosmetic pots to decorative tins and bottles, which you can then also use as packaging material for your own products.

Uses

  • creating natural candles in glass jars, pots and glasses from the Handymade packaging range
  • producing massage candles that you can fill into practical cosmetic containers, pots or pharmaceutical bottles
  • filling candles into reusable packaging after cosmetic products have been used up (e.g. glass bottle, pot or tin)
  • making scented candles with essential oils and aromatic blends in various containers
  • remanufacturing – reusing glass and metal packaging as decorative candle containers

Packaging benefits

  • Natural cotton material – the wick is made from cotton, which supports even burning when the correct thickness and wax type are chosen.
  • Burning stability – when properly trimmed and correctly combined with the wax, it helps minimise smoking and tunnelling of the candle.
  • Universal use – suitable for a wide range of candle containers, from smaller pots to larger decorative vessels.
  • Possibility of precise adjustment – you can trim and adjust the wicks according to the diameter of the specific container and the type of wax.

Combining with closures and dispensers

The ECO cotton wick is used primarily in the production of candles in various containers – glass bottles, pots, tins or other packaging. These packs can be closed with a suitable lid after the wax has solidified, which makes storage, transport and sale of the finished candles easier. When selecting the packaging, we recommend taking into account its shape, diameter and depth so that you can also select a corresponding wick length and thickness. Combinations of packs and closures that are created directly at Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

Technical parameters

All technical parameters of the packaging are specified in the enclosed Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How should I correctly choose the length and type of cotton wick for my container?

When choosing the wick, always start from the diameter of the container and the type of wax you are using. First prepare a test candle in the selected bottle or tin and trim the wick so that after pouring and solidifying the wax it protrudes approximately 5–7 mm above the surface. After the first burn, observe the behaviour of the flame – if the flame is too small and tunnelling occurs, it is necessary to choose a more robust wick; if the flame is too large and smokes heavily, you need to use a thinner wick or trim it much shorter. Testing in the specific type of packaging is essential when producing high-quality candles.

Is it possible to refill the finished candle in the packaging repeatedly with new wax?

Yes, after the candle has burned out you can reuse the suitable packaging – the glass container, pot or tin – for a new candle or for another product, provided you follow hygiene principles. Before refilling, always thoroughly remove wax residues, clean the pack mechanically and then disinfect it with a suitable agent, for example using IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or 96 % denatured plant ethanol. Packaging prepared in this way can be safely reused.

How should I safely dispose of or recycle packaging after candles with this wick?

If you decide not to reuse the packaging after the candle, first remove wax residues and any metal components of the wick (if used). Then sort the packaging according to the material specified in the parameters of the specific product – glass containers into the glass collection container, plastic packs into the appropriate separated collection for plastics and metal components into metal waste, if the collection system allows it. For composite packs it is advisable to separate the individual materials (for example, remove the plastic cap from the glass bottle) so that recycling is effective.

Can I use the same type of cotton wick in several different packs?

The same type of cotton wick can be used in several containers; however, it is always important to adjust the wick length and test the behaviour of the candle in the specific pack. A candle will behave differently in a narrow tall bottle than in a wide low tin. We therefore recommend creating test series – in different packs, with the same composition of wax and fragrances – and, based on the results, fine-tuning the combination of container diameter, wick type and wick length.

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

To choose a suitable bottle, tin or pot, we recommend using the advanced filter in the packaging categories. After clicking on the desired category, a filtering option appears at the top of the page, where you can clearly sort packs according to neck type, size, colour and material. This allows you to quickly find a suitable container for candles, cosmetic or other products and easily combine it with other components from our range.
