Product description

Wooden cross wick is a special component designed for the production of natural candles, serving as a stable and aesthetic “packaging” element for wax in containers and decorative jars. Thanks to its cross-shaped construction, it provides even burning and is suitable for candles made from both vegetable and paraffin waxes, ensuring consistent fragrance release and clean burn-out. This type of wick is popular for design candles in glass or ceramic containers, where visual impact and user comfort are emphasized.

Possible uses

  • Production of design candles in glass vials, jars and decorative tins
  • Candles with essential oils and aromatherapeutic blends in cosmetic containers
  • Fragrant interior accessory – candles in smaller medicine bottles or decorative containers
  • Test and gift candles in smaller jars and vials
  • Artisanal and hand-poured candles in original packaging intended for resale

Packaging advantages

  • Material stability – the wooden wick with cross construction ensures stable burning and better stability in various types of containers, from glass vials to more robust jars and tins.
  • Protection and burn control – thanks to its wooden construction, the flame behaves predictably, which contributes to safer use of candles in cosmetic and decorative packaging.
  • Universal use – suitable for various types of waxes and container sizes, which allows its use in a wide portfolio of candle products with different packaging solutions.
  • Aesthetic and natural appearance – wood combined with an elegant vial or jar gives an artisanal and premium look, increasing the perceived value of the final product.
  • Practical component for serial and small-scale production – easy insertion and alignment in containers allows efficient work when producing candles in both smaller and larger series.

Combining with closures and dispensers

Wooden wicks in candle containers are used primarily in combination with open jars, tins or vials without classic dispensing, but for storage and transport the candles can be supplemented with protective lids or closures, which together with the specific packaging form a functional unit. Vials and jars intended for candles are compatible with various types of closures (for example cover lids, decorative caps or protective barriers) according to the selected packaging parameters. Combinations of packaging and closures created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, behaviour of the packaging and lid when the candle is heated, handling when opening and closing).

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right size of wooden cross wick for my candle container?

When choosing a wooden cross wick, use the container diameter, wax type and desired burn intensity as a guide. We recommend first performing a test in the specific vial or jar in which you plan to sell the candle. Observe how evenly the wax melts, the flame height and any smoking, and adjust the wick size or container type according to the result. When the formulation changes (different wax, addition of fragrances and colorants), it is advisable to repeat the test.

Is it possible to use the wooden cross wick repeatedly in the same container?

The wooden cross wick is intended primarily for single use in one candle, but the container itself (vial, jar or tin) can be reused for pouring new candles if hygiene principles are observed. Before refilling, the packaging must be thoroughly cleaned of wax residues and impurities and then disinfected with a suitable alcohol, for example IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96% denatured vegetable. This will ensure a clean environment for the new wax and more stable burning of the new wick.

How to properly prepare the container and the wooden cross wick before pouring the wax?

Before pouring the wax, the candle container must be clean, dry and free of greasy or dusty impurities. If you use the container repeatedly, first remove wax residues, wash it with a suitable cleaning agent, allow it to dry thoroughly and disinfect it with alcohol (for example IPA or ethanol from the Handymade range). We recommend fixing the wooden cross wick in the centre of the bottom using a suitable adhesive or a special holder so that it remains stable and in the centre of the container during pouring and solidification of the wax.

How to safely dispose of and recycle the container after the candle with wooden wick has burned out?

After the candle has burned out, allow the wax and the container to cool completely. Mechanically remove wax residues and the wooden wick and clean the container. If you decide not to reuse the packaging, follow the recommendation in the parameter table for the specific product on Handymade, where you will find information on the material type and the recommended method of recycling (for example sorting into glass, plastic or other collection). By placing it correctly in sorted waste, you support efficient recycling of the packaging material.

You offer many packaging options – how can I find the right one for my product?

To choose a suitable vial, jar or tin for your candles, we recommend using the advanced filter, which you will find at the top of the page after clicking on a specific packaging category. In the advanced filter you can conveniently filter by neck type, size, colour and container material. This makes it easy to choose packaging that will suit your wax composition, the size of the wooden cross wick and the overall product design.
