The wooden wick is a practical and visually distinctive component for the production of natural candles in glass or tin containers. It is suitable for candles with vegetable as well as paraffin waxes and, when the correct size is chosen, ensures stable burning and smooth fragrance release. Thanks to its design, it is ideal for home hobby projects and small-scale artisanal production, where reliable candle performance and an aesthetic appearance are important.
When burning, the wooden wick creates a characteristic gentle crackling effect that enhances the atmosphere of a “fireplace in a small container” and at the same time contributes to the even melting of the wax. It is optimized for use in various types of containers – from smaller jars to medium-sized candles in jars and pots – giving you full control over the design and functionality of the final product.
The wooden wick is intended primarily for use in containers for candles, such as glass jars, tins, pots or other suitable containers. When choosing packaging for a candle, we recommend selecting a type of bottle or pot that allows safe candle burning without a closure during use and, where appropriate, convenient covering during storage.
The packaging available on Handymade.sk is designed to be combined with various types of closures; however, for candles the closures are used only for protection and storage, not during burning. The combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific wax formulation and fragrance).
All technical parameters of the packaging are listed in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
Selecting the container diameter is crucial for even burning with wooden wicks. We recommend starting with a test series of candles in the chosen bottle or pot and testing several configurations (amount of wax, type of wax and any addition of fragrance). After the candle has fully solidified, perform a burn test and observe whether the wax melts evenly to the edges of the container and whether the flame is neither too weak nor excessively high. Based on the results, fine-tune the container size or wick type.
Wooden wicks are generally suitable for most commonly used waxes, such as soy, rapeseed, palm or paraffin blends. However, each wax formulation burns differently, so it is essential to carry out your own testing in the specific container you plan to use. For highly fragranced candles or blends with added oils, it may be necessary to adjust the amount of fragrance or choose a different container size in order to achieve stable burning.
The candle container can be reused in compliance with hygiene principles, whether for another candle or for cosmetic products, if its material allows it. Before refilling, the container must always be thoroughly cleaned of wax residues and then disinfected with a suitable agent, for example IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96% denatured vegetable. This minimizes the risk of microbial contamination when used in cosmetics or other more sensitive applications.
If you decide not to further use the candle container, we recommend recycling it after removing wax residues and decorations, according to the material type specified in the parameters of the specific packaging on Handymade.sk. Glass containers generally belong in the glass recycling bin, plastic pots or closures in the plastic collection according to the marking on the product, and metal lids in the appropriate metal waste, if available at the collection point. Always follow local waste sorting rules to make recycling as effective as possible.
To simplify the selection of packaging, you can use the extended filter located at the top of the page after clicking on the selected packaging category. With the filter, you can quickly narrow down the offer according to neck type, size, colour and material, so that the bottle, pot or jar matches your product as closely as possible. In this way, you can conveniently select suitable packaging for candles, cosmetic preparations and other products without having to browse through the entire range.
