The wooden wick represents a natural and visually attractive solution for the production of candles in jars, pots or other containers. Thanks to its stable burning and characteristic gentle crackling, it is suitable for creating atmospheric indoor candles, where not only functionality but also aesthetics and user comfort are important. The design of the wick supports even burning of the wax and minimisation of smoking when the wax and container size are correctly chosen.
When choosing a wooden wick, the diameter of the container and the type of wax are important. As a guideline, wider containers and more viscous waxes require a more powerful wick. We recommend starting with trial production of a candle in the selected packaging and carrying out a burn test down to the bottom of the container in order to check the width of the melt pool, the flame height and the stability of the burning. Whenever you change the wax or the concentration of the fragrance, always perform a new test.
It is advisable to fix the wooden wick using a metal or special base designed for wooden wicks, or using a heat-resistant adhesive pad. Attach the base firmly to the bottom of the container so that the wick stands upright and does not move during wax pouring. It is recommended to pour the wax at the temperature recommended by the wax manufacturer and to allow the candle to cure in a calm environment without vibrations.
Wooden wicks can be used with several types of waxes, such as soy, vegetable or paraffin waxes, as well as with fragrances intended for candles. However, every combination of wax, fragrance, colourant and container size affects the burning. Therefore, we recommend carrying out a series of burn tests for every new candle recipe, during which you monitor the flame stability, complete melting of the wax and any smoking.
Packaging such as a glass jar, vial or jar used for candles can be reused after the candle has completely burned down, provided it is not damaged and basic hygiene principles are observed. First remove any wax residues mechanically and clean the packaging. Before pouring in new wax, we recommend thoroughly cleaning the container and disinfecting it with a suitable product, for example isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, such as the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol and Ethanol 96 % denatured vegetal. If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend sorting it into the appropriate separate collection according to the type of material, in accordance with local recycling rules.
To quickly find suitable packaging for candles or other products, we recommend using the advanced filter, which is available at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. In the advanced filter you can combine several criteria, such as neck type, size, colour and packaging material. This makes it easy to find vials, jars or pots that will suit both your formulation and the design of the final product.
