Product description

A glass bottle, amber vial with an aluminium cap, 30 ml is a ready-to-use set for filling smaller cosmetic volumes. Amber glass reduces light transmission, making it suitable for contents sensitive to light – facial serums, oil concentrates, essential oil blends or samples of your own products. The aluminium screw cap matching the bottle neck seals the contents tightly and is ideal wherever the contents are poured or measured directly, without a dropper or pump.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone also holds a certificate for direct food contact, but the complete set is intended for cosmetic products.

Why choose amber glass with an aluminium cap

  • Light protection – amber glass absorbs a large portion of light that accelerates oil oxidation and the loss of essential oil fragrance. The contents thus retain their original properties longer than in a clear container.
  • Glass does not react with the contents – it does not absorb fragrances, does not discolour and resists oils, essential oils and alcohol-based solutions. It is therefore also suitable for concentrated blends that would eventually cause plastic to soften or take on the scent.
  • Tight metal closure – the aluminium cap has a sealing insert made of foam polyethylene that sits on the neck and prevents leakage and the escape of volatile components. It unscrews and tightens back easily.
  • Small, practical volume – 30 ml is enough for a serum, a travel-size oil, an essential oil blend lasting several weeks, or a sample for a customer.
  • Reusable – the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected and refilled, which you will appreciate when testing formulations and in small-batch production.

Suitable for products such as

The set works best with contents that do not require a dispenser and are poured directly from the bottle or measured drop by drop from the neck. These are typically facial and hair oils, oil serums, essential oil blends for diffusers and aromatherapy, tinctures and alcohol-based solutions, as well as small sample volumes of hydrolats or tonics. For water-based and emulsion contents, do not forget preservation – the packaging does not replace it.

For manufacturers, the 30 ml set is also a practical sample container: a small quantity in packaging that closes securely and can be cleaned and reused after being returned.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is intended for during regular filling – in this case 30 ml. The total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them is the headspace for the cap, a possible dropper, and for the expansion of the contents when temperature changes.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will be pushed into the thread when screwing on the cap, contaminating the seal and causing the cap to no longer seal reliably.

Filling, cleaning and reuse

Before first use, wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely upside down. For the cap, simply wipe with disinfectant and leave to dry; prolonged soaking is not beneficial for the sealing insert.

Glass tolerates normal filling temperatures but is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Allow the hot oil phase or freshly melted balm to cool first and fill only when the contents are lukewarm. The narrow neck of the vial is best filled using a funnel or a syringe to prevent contents from remaining in the thread.

Labels adhere well to the cylindrical body of the bottle. When reusing, remove the old label and any adhesive residue before washing to prevent them from getting inside.

Caps with the same neck type as specified in the parameters, and ready-made bottle and dropper or sprayer combinations are available from Handymade. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosage and container behaviour with your specific formulation, particularly with concentrated essential oils and solvents that may affect the sealing insert over time.

At end of life, the glass bottle goes into glass recycling and the aluminium cap into metal recycling – both components can be easily separated and recycled.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass vial 30 ml protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass absorbs a substantial portion of light that accelerates oil oxidation and the breakdown of sensitive components. For oils, serums, tinctures and essential oil blends it is therefore more suitable than clear glass. It is not complete darkness, however, and it is still advisable to store the filled bottle away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Can the glass bottle, vial with aluminium cap be used for food products?
The complete set is not declared for food contact; it is intended for cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own holds a food contact certificate; the aluminium cap does not. If you need packaging for cooking oil or syrup, choose a bottle with a cap that states food-grade suitability in its parameters.
Is the aluminium cap on the vial suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based solutions?
Yes, the set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics and glass resists essential oils as well as alcohol. Inside the cap, the contents come into contact with the foam polyethylene sealing insert. With concentrated essential oils and solvents, we recommend checking the condition of the insert and the seal after some time, and replacing the cap when refilling if necessary.
How much can fit in the 30 ml vial – to the brim or to the nominal volume?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger and this difference serves as headspace for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will be pushed into the thread when screwing on the cap and the cap will stop sealing.
How to prepare the glass vial before first filling and can it be reused?
Before first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. The bottle is intended for repeated use; simply clean it in the same way after emptying. For the cap, we recommend only wiping with disinfectant and leaving it to dry; if the sealing insert is visibly damaged, replace it with a new cap of the same neck type.
Can a dropper or sprayer be fitted to the 30 ml glass vial instead of the aluminium cap?
Yes, the bottle has a standard screw neck that can accept droppers, mechanical sprayers or pumps with the same neck type as specified in the parameters. Ready-made bottle and dropper or sprayer combinations are available from Handymade. With your own combination, verify the seal and whether the dispenser reaches the bottom of the bottle.
